Major gas shortage. Only 1 in 8 stations have any gas.

Saw this on the news tonight....pictures of many "closed" gas stations.

They mentioned the price gouging going on, one gas station was settling at $8.70something a gallon?

    Hah!

Last week we didn't have ANY gas. City and county governments shut down. If a station got a tanker the lines formed instantly and it would be dry again within 2 hours. Now about 1/3rd of stations have fuel and most have a 25 dollar maximum, fine for me as I only need 4 gallons at a time.

Because of hurricane Ivan.. still gas shortages in Georgia, also North Carolina and South Carolina.. where I am at.

Luckily, I've been able to fill my gas tank x2 since the beginning of the shortage.. but I don't go thru gas that quickly, because my work place is right around the corner. There are a lot of gas stations down here, that have the yellow bags over their gas pump nozzles.

yep saw the same thing... any South eastern state even here in VA there are some stations with shortages. The national average is like 3.63$/gallon yet we are lucky to find it below 3.90$ and thats if you can find a station that has it and isn't out.

For those that need it daily like delivery for pizza, flowers etc are really hurting vs those that might get it once a week or once every two weeks. We argue about issues from the housing issue yet we are dealing with a Energy crisis everyday and will only get worse and trickle back to the housing, food and other parts of the market.

The problem is particularly bad in the south because for some reason southerners panic when they think there may eventually be a shortage and run out and buy all the gas. Tuscaloosa has been pretty much out of gas for almost two weeks because of 25,000 stupid college students all rushing out within a 12 hour period to buy any gas they could find.

Most gas stations usually stock approximately a 21 day supply for normal sales, if southerners followed normal buying patterns the problems would be far smaller in scale. Self fulfilling fear, anyone?

A lot has to do with how much gas the bulk plants in various states, have on hand. With refineries not at capacity in the south, it's bound to affect gas supplies.
