Non-PC DVD players that can play WMV, etc?

Thanks for the help, guys, but I think some of you are confusing WMA with WMV. Most of the models you linked to support WMA files, not video.

Did you take a look at this I just got email from friend with the link.

Not that it adds anything to the issue at hand, but I just picked up a DVD player at BB that does upconversion, HDMI and DivX.

I dont have one, but do you/can you see the difference while playing regular DVD movie?

If you are talking DivX vs. regular DVD, yes. You can tell the DivX isn't a perfect picture. Sometimes it'll jump or the audio will sound a little distorted for a second. However, considering I have 8 one-hour episodes of a British TV show (TopGear) on one DVD, that isn't bad at all.

It is perfectly watchable and enjoyable. You can just tell it's compressed and you aren't getting the full effect. The convenience factor sets off the quality 10 fold.

I was looking at this one but it's too expansive IMO ...but the features are great.
Will wait few months tho, let me know what do you think about this player.

Yeah, I agree. That is too much for a DVD player. For what I need, (up-conversion, HDMI and DivX) I wasn't going to go above $125 or so. I found this one at $85 or so and had a BB gift card.

One downfall I've found is that when you turn off the unit mid-movie, it won't pick it up where you left it off. Not a big deal, but worthy of letting you know. A little nuisance.

I figured as much, since Hollywood frowns upon that, but I still have my eyes on the lookout for such a feature without the need for custom firmwares. Thanks for the info though.

The 360 actually does that, but it does not have HDMI capabilities at the moment.

Burke, I ask around on a couple of sites and I couldn't find a DVD player that did what you ask.

MM...you mentioned you thought the Oppo 981 was too much money. I suppose it depends on point of view. It gets killer reviews for it's upconversion. Up to 1080P. It's also a universal player in that it'll play both SACD's and DVD-A's. HDMI only on the vid out. No component.



Oppo also makes the 971 too, which is another universal upconverting player.
