How to setup HD for SATA

Would somebody please help me to set up the HD for SATA in Slave mode? I installed 'em already but my computer did not recognize it? Thanks.

You don't have to worry about master and slave with SATA. You usually just have single SATA connectors on your motherboard...just plug the drive into it..probably be the second SATA connector, as I'm guessing your first SATA drive is your primary bootable drive.

Make sure your mobo's BIOS see the secondary drive..if it does...as soon as you boot up into Windows...the OS will see it in My Computer as long as it's partitioned and formatted in either FAT/FAT32/NTFS.

If it's not formatted and partitioned...you'll have to do that in Disk Management....when you right click My Computer and select Manage..it's in the MMC there. From there..you can create your partition(s), either primary or extended, manage the drive letter, volume label, and format it.

Can I set up my system like this:
The first two HD connect to (40-1 pin PRI_IDE) on for master and slave
the third and fourth HD to SATA as a slave

So that mean I have two on PRI_IDE and two on SATA as a slave.

or I have to put them all on SATA or PRI_IDE.

Yes you can have your system use a PATA drive for the boot drive, and SATA for additional drives. Just a matter of setting your primary boot device in your BIOS options. And depending upon your motherboard...possibly some compatability modes for SATA.

Thanks, I bought the small PCB that install to the back of my HD...and I try to make my MB recognize it but so far no luck at all. My MB is P5W DH from ASUS. Don't know what to to next. any advices??? Thanks again.

do you mean that you're trying to install more IDE devices than your board supports? If that's the case the best thing to do is to get an add-on ide card, some can be had for ~$20. Here's a list of some ide cards that should work. Not sure if this is what you're looking for, just sounds like you have more ide components than your new board supports. I was in the same boat as you if that's the case.

yes it same idea. but My MB is P5w DH from ASUS ...it have SATA extra connector. I don't have any extra PCI on my MB. if they have for PCI express...it would be OK I think. Thanks
