Expensive Cisco Routers/ Switches... worth it???

I am just wondering why Cisco Routers/ Switches are so much more expensive than other brands?

    Is it just their performance?

    Does it really worth it?

Well, yes, it is worth it when a large network or busines depends on it. For the home ,no, but for production nets, yes.

They are worth it if your requirments demand that type of equipment. They have models such as the 4500 and 6500 with removable and swapable ports that can be used to have hundreds of connections. If you are a large enterprise having a closet filled with thousands of small 16 or 24 port switches just can't work.

Also service is another factor. They offer extended warranties (renewable for the life of the equipment) with onsite replacement of damaged equipment in as little as two hours. If your network supports a business where hourly downtime costs you $$$ then you pay the premium to make sure it doens't go down, and if it does it is back up ASAP.
