some setup questions

i need to run our network out to a machine in our shop and was just looking for some pointers. the run is going to be about 500 feet so i can't run straight cat-5. basically i was looking for some info on setting up a repeater. it's only one machine so i'm just look for a cheap, easy way to get it running. is it going to be a simple as just hooking up a hub and watching it go or are there some tricks i'll need to know?

Could always do a coax run (fairly cheap), or fiber (more expensive).

Yeah you can make the run with 2 little 5 port switches spread out along the way with say 175-200 feet 'tweenst each one. Usually works....but sometimes..eh..depends.
