A couple from Yarmouth appeared in a New Hampshire courtroom Monday to face kidnapping charges in the abduction of their 19-year-old daughter. Investigators say it's one of the most bizarre cases they've been involved with.

They say Nicholas and Lola Kampf of North Yarmouth chased their daughter, tied her hands and tried to drive her to New York to force her to get an abortion.

Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion spent a couple of hours talking with 19-year-old Katelyn Kampf. He says it was a terrifying experience for her and that she thought her parents were going to kill her.

"I don't think it's completely sunk in, the fact that your own parents would be perpetrators of a crime against you. I think she's working real hard to wrap her mind around it," said Sheriff Dion.

According to police, the incident began at the Kampfs home. Investigators say an argument broke out after Katelyn told her parents she was pregnant.

The father of the child, Reme Johnson, is currently behind bars at the Androscoggin County jail serving a 6 month sentence for receiving stolen goods.

Police say Nicholas and Lola Kampf insisted their daughter get an abortion. They were on the way to New York, when Katelyn managed to escape in Salem, New Hampshire and call 911.

Police say they found rope, duct tape, a gun and ammunition in the car.

Bail for the Kampfs was set at $100,000 each. They've been ordered to have no contact with their daughter.

Katelyn Kampf is now staying with her boyfriend's mother in Portland.

Makes me wonder just how supportive the parents were, while she was growing up She is 19! Perfectly capable of making her own decisions, whether the parents are happy about it or not!

This is just as wrong as the anti-choicers who force women to have children.

    **** both sides. Evil bastards.

I understand why they did what they did (don't agree, but I can understand it). They were terrified for their daughter at 19 having to raise a child with a jailbird boyfriend and probably believed they'd get stuck doing a lot of the parenting.

They could either get her an abortion, live with the additional imposition, or cut her off completely. And even if they did if she ended up losing the baby because she was a poor mother or had other issues the state would come looking to gramma and granpa first to take over. What choice would they have then? Abandon their own grandchild to the state?

Facing that, they probably believed the best course for all, including the young adult, was an abortion. Instead, they have managed to drive their child from them, and she will almost certainly have the child out of spite now. It's going to destroy the family. Shame really, if only the young girl could learn to either close her legs or make her jailbird wear a condom none of them would be in this situation. The parents have to take responsibility for their actions, of course. But it's the 19 year old infant who precipitated this by HER choices. /shrug

What you do affects others in your family. Pretending that you can do without consequence to others who care about you is selfish and infantile. IMHO.

    Regards,
    -Bouncer-

1.) What if the birth control methods failed?

2.) "19 year old infant"? She's a legal adult, Bouncer.

3.) Why do you seem so intent on placing the blame for the parents abducting this adult on her, and not the parents?

Oh aye, it's not like the girl wasn't an idiot. I'm not trying to make that argument.

I'm just curious as to how this could be twisted to be her fault, and not the fault of the actual kidnappers. Right now, the only logic path I see is the, "She asked for it because she was wearing a short skirt!" logic. Which is invalid on its face.

Your Obviously NOT a parent. I Understand and agree 100% with Bouncer. I understand completely why the parents responded like they did. I don't agree with it but I understand it completely.

To abstain from sex has never lead to conception. That is the safest form of birth control even though it means you can't have sex which is why most people , myself included, don't use it.

But Bouncer still has a point.

But as you said, she is also legally an adult.

    They are both at fault.
