Hello all i have just registerd on this forum for the following problem. Please not that i am not that handy with computers. So i realy hope u guys can help me out in "normal" laungage hehhe... I tried to make the post easy to read.
Situation
I have ADSL ethernet connected directly on my phone line with a splitter. I have a modem from the company i registered and i have a WiFi router. This should make the connection with the proper cables. I want to connect my normal computer (this is were WOW is on) by cable from the Router and my laptop wireless.
Attempts
Non-wireless: Laptop
Without putting the router in action the following thing happens. Directly from my modem i connect my laptop with the cable. Connection found and made! I have internet on my laptop. Yippie. But not wireless.
computer
The same thing i do with my computer, i connect the cable with my comp. It makes connection and then it says that one of the cables of the network is not proper connected. This is bull imo, its all new and i do the same thing as with my laptop. conclusion it doesnt work. So i thought it was maybe the ethernet card in my computer. So i bought a new one. But the same thing happens.
Wireless:
The router is registerd and the settings are made at my work, some guy helped me with it. It also has the safety key and knows the code of my laptop. At work it all worked
Laptop
Now i connected the router with my modem. I start my laptop and it makes wireless connection with internet. Yippie again i have connection, BUT it says i have connection though when i open internetpage or Msn it doesn’t work.
Computer
I have put the cable in the router of 1 of the 4 ports. The same thing happens with my computer now, it cant make connection cause there is something wrong.
Conclusion
Sofar i have only connection with my laptop by a cable with my modem! Guys what can i do? I am not that technical with computer software and all. So if u might know whats going on then please make it a post that a n00b can follow
If any further info is needed to determine whats going on, pls yell.
look on page 22 of that page configure the modem in bridge mode also change the address of the modem to 192.168.1.2 if you can in the modem options. The ip of the modem is in the directions in the frist couple of pages.
then take the linksys connect the modem's ethernet cable to the wan port of the router. Plug computer make into router lan port then type pppoe 192.168.1.1 then put the router in pppoe mode then enter your isp's login and password information in there. then click connect.
Now assuming you are overseas I"m hoping you can read this link if not let me know I'll try to make it clearer for ya.
I got it translated for ya this will help use exemple one it will be the easier one
WAP with ADSL modem/router How you can ADSL modem/router and WAP combine?
Hereafter two examples are developed.
Example 1: in room network assume one router.
Example 2: two routers couple, the WAP functionereert as local Dhcp-server.
Example 1Both apparatuss are connected in local network. In these situation is it not significant for both as a router in at to put.
A router has been, as it happens, meant for the date movement between Internet ("outside") and local network to regulate. For the situation synoptic to keep, must only one of the two components become designated as a router.
In this example the following components are used:
- COP by jet 810 modem/router
- Linksys WRT54G Wireless Broadband router
Linksys WAP the US. COP by jetIt is in this situation not well possible for the Linksys router from because to change gear, this router also built in Switch with 4 network connections have.
The COP by jet modem/router has only one network connection, it is for this reason to recommend that as Bridged establishing modem. The Linksys WAP then the router becomes. Disadvantage is, however, that the web interface of the COP by jet modem not it is easy approach.
The Linksys router have tevens DHCP server, with which Ip-adressen for the local computers are supplied.
The range of local Ip-adressen of the Linksys WAP are standard 192.168.1.x, where the router himself on address 192.168.1.1 has been established. therefore Ip-adressen get connected computers assigned as from address 192.168.1.2 and higher. If wished is possible the range of ip-adressen are adapted.
The COP by jet modem is as Bridged modem established. Because of this the modem exclusively as a doorgeefluik of Internet-signaal serve. Built in Dhcp-server, router and firewall are not used.
Example 2 The COP by jet modem and Linksys WAP becomes both in local network connected.
Although 2 routers in one room do not place network usual are, becomes in this example nevertheless explained how this combination can problems cooperate without.
Reason to do this is for also web interface for COP by jet modems use to be able, including firewall, loggings to examine etc.. (the web interface of CJT modem is only contactable as CJT router vogue has been established).
In this example the following components are used:
- COP by jet 816-2p or 1616-2P modem/router
- Wireless Broadband router/access Point (Linksys WRT54G)
The Linksys are here not the primary router. Dhcp-server of the Linksys WAP however local Ip-adressen distribute.
Ip-adres the range of the Linksys is: 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254.
On the Linksys now Ip-adres receive computers connected: 192.168.1.X.
Moreover Internet-signaal must be also passed on of/to COP by jet modem. This can be realised extra Gateway to establish.
By Gateway-constructie can nevertheless be coupled the Linksys with COP by jet modem: Setup -> Advanced Routing
Click Save Settings after filling in Gateway-adressen.
The COP by jet modem therefore also works as a router and has Dhcp-server local Ip-adressen. Range: 172.193.2 - 172.193.254.
To be web interface (http://172.193.1 or http://172.19255.254) is possible this way without problems are approached, also Internet-verkeer can be exchanged.
In practice approximately the following happens:- COP by jet distributes router ip-adressen in 172.193.X range, Linksys get
for example address 172.193.4 assigned.
- Distribute Linksys WAP themselves Ip-adressen to the connected PC's and/or laptops,
range: 192.168.1.x.
- The extra Gateway forward everything by means of Ip-adres 172.193.4.
- Internet-verkeer become by means of the CJT modem by means of Gateway 172.19255.254 forwarded to the LInksys router.
The routes of Linksys WAP become visible by means of bud Show Routing table:
For regulating NAT (forwardingforwarding forwarding) poortnummers must at both COP by jet 816-2P as Linksys WAP are established.
- CJT: Port Forwarding/NAT;
- Linksys WRT54G:
Sofar thanks alot! I am reading carefully what u have told and will try to make it this evening. If i will come up with some questions u will hear for me.
