    can you tell me what these terms mean and how they apply to me. Also, if i get a cable modem how do i know which one i have.

    PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) is an extention of the PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) protocol used buy dial-up accts. W/PPPoE u have to log on every time u want to go online. I don't think any cable ISPs use it but some DSL ISPs do. They use it to free up IPs when users aren't online.
