XP SP2 & small office network

ok - it's finally put me over the edge.
I got a new dell about 4months ago here at work, I have lots of industrial software so the HJT log may show some stuff you're not used to seeing but my problem is this:
we run a file server on W2K Server, this also is our domain host... it seems like i need to re-boot every morning or my network connection to the server is slower than dirt. we're using a D-Link DI-604 router, and a TrendNet TE100-SE24 passive 24 port switch.
Even with the server mapped as a network drive it's **** slow

when i was running W2K i never had this problem... i might have rebooted 1/month just for installing/removing software... now with XP SP2 it's a done every morning if not multiple times per day... any suggestion would be appreciated.... if it's a SP2 issue can i just uninstall sp2 without any adverse effects?

    here's the HJT log:

To start with, have you check this guide here?
    http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1660

Is this just for your workstation?

What antivirus is running on the network? I see AVG on your rig, but no networked antivirus really? Or are you using AVG's network product?

I'd have everyone plugged into the main switch, with the router uplinked to it..nobody else plugged into the router.

Any other network protocols? Or just TCP/IP?

I've not had any issues with XP SP2, if you have the Windows firewall enabled, just make sure file 'n print sharing is allowed in the exceptions.

Is the Sentinal licensing server running on your rig for others? Or just the client part?

512 megs of RAM or more?

Is your workstation set to log into the domain? Or are you just doing a local login?

Double check your TCP info against the article I wrote linked above.

Spyware remnants. Use HijackThis to FIX:

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

I'll go thru this today to make sure the server's set up correctly... like your article says 'it just worked' before

Is this just for your workstation?
seems to be, i was previously running W2K i didn't experience any issues.i also have another laptop here that's running SP1 and having no troubles

What antivirus is running on the network? I see AVG on your rig, but no networked antivirus really? Or are you using AVG's network product?
I do run AVG Network Edition... i'm sure it could be better set up but it's one of those things that 'I'll get around to'... until then we all report back to it so i can see the status of everyone else but that's about it.

I'd have everyone plugged into the main switch, with the router uplinked to it..nobody else plugged into the router.
everybody's plugged in at the switch, the switch goes to the router, the router goes to the cable modem (eastern ct cable)

Any other network protocols? Or just TCP/IP?
    on my workstation i have:
    TCP/IP
    NWLink NetBIOS
    NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol

the server has the same plus:
    Appletalk
    Network Monitor Driver

I've not had any issues with XP SP2, if you have the Windows firewall enabled, just make sure file 'n print sharing is allowed in the exceptions.
    Windows Firewall is off

Is the Sentinal licensing server running on your rig for others? Or just the client part?
Sentinal Licensing is for me locally when i run GE Fanuc's iFix software, they use a parralell port key for licensing

512 megs of RAM or more?

Curious why CrApple Talk is on the server, and IPX is running on your workstation.

Antivirus real time protection set to "exclude" network drives?

who knows... i probably ran into an issue where something didn't talk and just added stuff until it worked.

as for the AV excludes it says i can only define exclued for local drives and when i try to add networked drives it removes them from the exclude list and yells at me.
