Losing the connection to the server on my client

My gateway runs NT4, and runs OK for the most part. I have an ADSL modem.

My client runs Win98 and loses the connection to the server (whether it be http, FTP, mail, Telnet etc.) very often. I'll be surfing away, and it just loses it.

I have played with the MTU settings and believe they are OK.

What should I do?

What proxy software r u using?

I am using WinRoute Pro. They say to set the MTU to 800, but I have it at 1426. 800 doesn't work any better
