A Thai Kiss: A learning experience

There is nothing like a Thai Kiss....

A Thai Kiss is something cultural taught to Thai women over generations in Thailand. When you kiss a woman most Westerners expect the lip and tongue action and WILL be disappointed that the girl did not deliver when in fact she did by Thai standards.

What most don't know is how erotic her kiss is when she does it Thai style. If a woman kisses you Thai style it means she "really " likes you and is indeed aroused. This is a rarity I was told when I arrived but I was fortunate to experience it most days and nights in Thailand.

A Thai kiss is when a woman barely presses her lips to an area of the face and sniffs deeply and exhaling on the same area or moves her lips to another area. Around the eyes and nose area is VERY hard to take. lol

See, Thai's are Buddhist and the head area is considered the most sacred part of the body. If a woman does not know you, a simple kiss on the cheek or touching her hair is a BIG no-no. They can lose face with other Thai's if they are present and witness this. Hence they will run to the nearest Buddhist temple or Budda monument and pray and pray hard....no lie.

It works the same way with the feet. If you go to give a woman a foot massage (in public) the feet are considered dirty and the lowest point of the body. I tried once at a bar by just playing around and I was politely told by the woman, "no" and then she explained why. She and the others knew it was my first trip to Thailand and no harm was done and more drinks were ordered. It explains why women while taking showers spend about 5 minutes washing the feet area.

So basically, you can hold hands in public and nuzzle but to save there "Face" respect the religion and the Buddhist culture. Save it all for the bedroom where anything goes and you can get your traditional western "kiss".

The article below is for the most part accurate. If a foreigner is waied by a Thai this is considered a great respect. The higher the wai the greater the respect.

A western wai will not go past the nose as that is saved for Thai elders, mothers, fathers and greater. If the wai goes up the face and across the head near the back of the head he or she is Thai royalty.

If you are waied and called con (pronounced coon) Patrick, man your are in the "in crowd" and did something right along your travels. This is the ultimate sign of respect and something to take very seriously. It's a really humbling experience to be waied and even more humbling to be called, "Con Patrick".

I believe a typical wai is putting ones palms together, in front of their chest, and then giving a slight bow. (I am sure that you have seen this on TV many times...) The placement of the hands is what determines the level of respect, so to speak. I believe the higher up wais are usually with just finger tips touching...
