    Cool DHCP

    Hello,
    I got a cablemodem using a dhcp.
my question is this i got to release and renew the ip adress almost 3 times a day, Is this a windows problem or is at the isp's end ?
I hope windows so there is a fix to this.

OK..why do you have to do that?

The cable modem, in using DHCP, is going to auto configure itself as long as it has a signal coming into the modem itself. DHCP is a protocol which basically eliminates the need to manually enter in any TCP/IP network settings.
What is happening that you would need to do this?

If you are losing the connection from cable to the modem than it is your ISP/Cable companies problem as it is more than likely an RF issue or they may have their end screwed up where DHCP can't configure the settings.

If you are connected and your puter freezes than it may be a windoze problem and that is on you. We need a little more info to help you. Briefly explain what you are doing and what happens. Is it consistent? Think cause and effect here ok. Sorry you are having problems. What isp is this anyway?

    Well my isp is chello

Not sure what happens the com21 stays connected no orange lights.
I just get alot of connection reset by peer on irc and after that it won't connect untill i renew the ip adress (wich stays the same ip)
Also when i am uploading to a ftp my download seems to have almost disapeared very slow at that point.
    I use Windows ME
Maybe it's a known issue with winME.
Hope this helps a bit more

    Wink

Are you useing Zonealarm? If so drop it down to medium and see if this helps out with your DHCP problem. If Not and are useing a different firewal. Plus able to set ports up in it to open. Set the port for your DHCP server UDP To open and close. This way your Ip will release and renew with no proublems. This should solve your proublem. Some of the newer updates cable providers have been useing are not compatibal with most of the free firewalls out there. See If this works for you. GoodLuck!
