Question What type of coax for a cable modem?

Hi all, had a cable modem installed a while back but now want
to move the computer to another room. As such I need to lengthen the
coax from the wall box to the cable modem. What type of coax
do I need, impedence etc.? Will the coax used for sattelite dishes be
    ok? Thanks for any info!

RG-6 is recommended. The most important thing is the quality of the connector installation. If you had the choice of RG-59 with good connectors vs. Rg-6 with bad, take the RG-59.

Hi Kip, thanks for the info. I'm in the UK (I assume your in the USA) and I can get hold of RG59B/U 75ohm coax. Is this the same?
Once again, thanks for the help!

Yes, the coax standards are pretty much global. RG-59/B is a little later, better specification than the original RG-59. It should be fine.

In your shoes I'd ask the cable company for a length of cable with connectors istalled. If you pick it up (truck rolls are expensive) they will probably give it to you.

Once again Kip, thanks. Unfortunately my cable provider lease the modem etc. so I'm not even *supposed* to change the coax. They have told me an engineer must do it and they charge a stupid amount to do this simple job. Hence the reason I want to do it myself. Also am I correct in thinking the connector type used on the coax is called an "F series"? Again I don't know if this is the name used in the States...
