Post Cablenut 3.5 patch out today 011501!

Just DL'l and installed it. It has you pick which RWIN size you want dependent on the speed of your cable.
I was wondering though, I was getting in the mid-3000 range on DSL reports but Download Manager would sometimes spike up to 600K.
How do I know what RWIN to set the new patch at? Do I accept the @Home hype #'s or go with DSL Reports measurements?

Experiment with both, and see which one is better...

trying the 'wrong' one won't make your 'puter explode or anything!

    good luck

Yes I have to say, I have tried every patch out there and by far Cablenut's and DannyJr.
beats them all, hands down. I love this site,
learn alot on it, I still do not understand all the hype about big RWIN vs Small one, whatever works for you (no packet loss) I use the large RWIN, but you have a choice, so go fer it.

I have no problem with trying either setting but as there seems to be no generally accepted speed test amongst us, regardless of the DSLReports.com speed postings, I still can't figure out which is more setting is more effective.
Adding to the confusion is the amount of variance that the speed tests have. At one time, I reached nearly 4000 a few moments after testing at 2900 on DSLReports.
My speed has not noticibly increased/decreased with Cablenut 3.5 after using 3.0. In essence, a good thing I guess.

I hear what yer sayin. Speed tests are nice for a quick check or comparison, but the only way to really test is in real-world use. (and then it's still often diffucult to measure...) Your situation is prolly like mine, already at or near your cap, so not much more can be done. Definitely a good thing!
It appears possible that in my case the cablenut 3.0 patch actually helped with maintaining peak speeds for longer duration over the course of a DL. But its hard to say for sure whats goin on, as so many things affect throughput and change all the time...
But anyway, it wouldn't hurt to get an expert opinion on which route to take.

    good luck

Will someone answer this please, I use #Microsoft's Wireless Mouse (Man it is great)
but what I would like to know is should I turn it off before a speed test as it uses a few resourses. I just did a spped test at DSL Reports with cablenuts new 3.5 patch:
Your download speed : 3444307 bps, or 3444 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 420.4 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 1092896 bps, or 1092 kbps.
Your connection rocks .. above the 1mbit barrier!

Cablenut: Judging from the diagram that you posted, your throughput is similar to mine. Coming from that perspective, would you suggest the high-speed cable RWIN or the regular RWIN?
As I stated before, I vary just within the range where you ask us to decide which RWIN to use. As you do, sometime there's a speed test of mid-3K's but I also show DL's of over 5K too.
Sorry to seem a little confused about what should be pretty straight forwardward but since I don't know what #'s to trust, I can't make an accurate determination. The fact that I get similar speeds with either patch only adds to the confusion.

I too benefit a lot from these discussions, but I find that a large RWIN---given I normally have low latency (depending on the sites obviously)---will definitely lead in my case to packet loss.

Quite apart from measuring this, I found that whenever I used Winamp for streaming music, or Realplayer 8.0, a large RWIN would interfere with the stream and lead to constant interruptions in the downloading stream.

Since I set my RWIN back to 33,920, with MTU Discovery ON---and 1500 MTU (even with a linksys BF-4 router, using 1.30 software)---I get consistently good music streaming and score consistently at 1) DSL speedtest in the 3500 kbs download (280 upload), 2) Toast,Sunnyvale site (about 10-15% lower, consistently than DSL), and 3) Bandwidth place. Ordinarily, my downloads of big FTP files are in the 300-400 Kbs range, more or less matching these results.

So? What it comes down to, as Cablenut himself suggests, is that you have to experiment individually. I use DrTCP from DSL to adjust my settings, saving the need from going into the Registry, though I gather Cablenut's new version lets you do this now too.

hey cablenut, should there be a DefaultTTL for your Win2K setup? Or have you found that the Windows default is the best? Cuz I noticed that there isn't one in the setup so I was just wondering what you think.

You can try changing them to see what is better. It seems that there is just a couple of things I might want to tell you before hand. Once you turn off PMTU-D you will have to add MTU to the right interfaces folder, if your MTU tests below 1500 on the ping test.. I really don't suggest doing it right now. I know that with win2k on my connection it can in some cases slow it down.. But not all connections are created equil..
Also you may want to re-read the information on win2k and where all the settings are with this http://microsystems.homestead.com/Win2k.html

Can't wait to try out the v3.5 patch. I had to reformat over the weekend (installed Front Page 2000 on Friday evening, rebooted and my machine locked.) Got back up and running Saturday morning and ran the v3.0 patch. Speed tests on DSLR prior to running v3.0 were 2500 down / 90 up. After the patch I've been running 3200-3900 down / 110-119 up. I couldn't be happier! Well.. actually I could, which is why I'm anxious to try v3.5 in the morning. Keep up the great work guys!

Just ran a test after clearing cache etc...(v3.0)
    ** Speed 3498(down)/124(up) kbps **
(At least 69 times faster than a 56k modem)
    Finish.
