I own a Toshiba Satellite that I bought brand new almost 2 years ago. I will never buy another Toshiba product as long as I live.

My recommendation would be to buy another brand.

Looks pretty good, only the hard drive is 4200 rpm so that would be kinda slowish, rest of it has some real good power!

RAM is shared with the video also...but depending on what you're planning on using it for..it should be ok.

Thx for the input. I was looking for a lappy with a dedicated video card. I may consider dell.

Mine isn't even two years old and the systems board was replaced, the USB card was replaced, the buttons in the front have never worked from day one, the case cracked, and the hard drive just **** the bed last week. I also have been having problems with the CD/RW drive also.

Toshiba will not answer any parts related questions at all. They do not have a parts manual for my model so it can be very difficult to get parts. While I cannot say that I am a big fan of Dell computers I will say that if you want replacement parts they will sell you whatever you need. Some (all??) Dell models have an actual video card that can be removed and replaced with a newer model.

I usually replace my laptop every year with a new one but do to shortages in funds I still have this one. I have owned Sony and HP notebooks in the past and I had 0 problems with them. The next laptop I would like to purchase would be an Alienware. After that I would probably get another HP.

Dell, Compaq's, HP's, IBM and panasonic CF series, are all good. My sister just got a compaq R3000Z 2340 laptop last night, and so far I am impressed with the speed

stay away from Toshiba laptops...my dad got a Toshiba Satellite P20 two months ago and it already has a dead pixel. Also I find that laptop to be slow and slugish for a laptop.

I would agree there too. I have speeded mine up some.

One of the biggest things that helped was getting rid of the bundled software and doing a clean install of XP.

When I replaced the hard drive I went from original 40 GB 4200rpm HD to a 60 GB 7200rpm HD.

And then you do the usual registry tweaks and shutting down of processes etc.
