My cable modem keeps shutting off

hi guys, i have been very frustrated for the last week, because since then, my cable modem has been shutting down like every hour, or even more frequently. It's only happening when I use my computer, because the modem will stay on all night, but shut down after a hour's use, forcing me to unplug and replug the modem, making the internet work again. I have always been having this problem, but not as frequently as this. What's going on?

My cable modem has 5 LEDs, in order: Power, Receive, Send, Online, Activity. When my cable modem shuts down, the LED is blinking on Send, and won't go any farther, forcing me to unplug and replug the modem.

When it's working try the modems configuration page:

    http://192.168.100.1/

Look for the up and downstream signal levels.

    cable modem

first question who is your provider??(I hope it isn't at&t)...second do you have the modem plugged into an outlet or a surge protecter??? if its a surge protecter unplug it and plug it directly into an outlet...because the modem has a surge protecter built into it...sometimes in an older modem the surge protecter get weak and thinks the modem isn't getting enough power when under a load and will shut down...

You might have a bad modem (it happens). Call your provider and see if they’ll give you a replacement.
People will forget what you said... and people will forget what you did... but people will never forget how you made them feel.

I bet you have an outdated firmware.
I have a Sb4200 and it has an old firmware and everytime I went to a website or did anything with multiple connects the modem would shut down and reboot.

The best course of action for you to do is get a new modem from your provider, if you can.
If you CANT, look up and learn how to upgrade the firmware on your modem.
My ISP wouldnt replace my modem nor upgrade the firmware, but is possible and it is not hard to do.

go to http://192.168.100.1 then go to the help page.
You will see something LIKE this:

    Code:
    Software Version: SB4200-0.4.4.2-SCM01-NOSH
That shows my modem has the 0.4.4.2 firmware.
    See what yours has.

I don't know what any of those values mean either. Maybe it is a bad modem. I could try replacing
