If your not doing anything wrong, then what have you got to hide.

Lotta people here wont like that statement, and shall scream "MY PRIVACY, MY PRIVACY."

But, they wont be allowed to just say, hey lets listen in to so and so for no reason. Warrants will need to be approved by judges. There must be reasonable cause to install such a tap, evidence of some kind of illegal activity must be provided.

Yeah, the whole thing of "I'm not doin anything wrong" does apply to an extent. But do you not see that this kind of government infringment on private business is a VERY BAD thing. The proposal is basically saying "if you don't make it possible for us to SPY on American citizens, we will outlaw yer technology". BAD, very worrisome. Also, who do ya think is gonna pick up the bill for all the re-working the networks are gonna need? The FBI...uhm, NO. The PRIVATE companies are gonna have to soak up the costs, and pass it on to me and you. So, we get a crippled and less secure service that costs more, just because the FBI sees an easy exploit.

Why require a back-door? I'm sure the system admins of such co-los or centers would be more than happy to cooperate with the Feds on a CASE BY CASE level, rather than revamping the whole system. This is big governemnt, this is government nosing around in places they have no business. A "universal" backdoor is quite disturbing, imagine the exploits if somebody thats not as principaled as the FBI were to discover the backdoor?

We have a computer in our computer room that was placed there by “big brother” (we don’t have administrative rights to it). Big Brother is not just watching people outside his window… he’s watching everyone "inside" the house as well..

Big lock on the door that requires electronic key access (which is logged). Lots of computers on the floor (and in racks) and one big-ass air conditioner. Is that what you mean?

i hate arguing on a forum, too hard to put speech to text because of 0 emphasis.

basically id rather the other end, id rather an invasion of privacy than a complete lockout. maybe not to the extreme as it would cost all too much to monitor everyone in the U.S., but thats the only way i can easily explain my view without confusing you or myself

you cant catch someone if your not looking, especially if your not allowed to look, whether it be child porn, to planning the bombing of some building.

oh yea and the whole having to revamp the systems, thats wrong from an econmic standpoint, not to mention how much trouble it will cause clients. case by case sounds better and economical

I would like to say that MS has already been doing this. X-Box owners don't know this, but MS has been scanning people's x-boxes to make sure that anything illegal hasn't been done. I read this in an article.

Here's the article, it Rumor #3:

"You go left, I'll take the right"
    "..."
    "Hello? You take the left"
    "..."
    "Are you there?"
"I shouldn't say anything, the FBI might be listening and I need my privacy"

Lollerberries... In a protest against this American 'The Land of Freedom and civil rights' law, I will now bocott American 'The Land of Freedom and civil rights' products such as XBox live and MSN voice, as all my MSN communications are routed through American 'The land of Freedom and Civil Rights' servers anyhow.

In another protest against this American 'The Land of Freedom and Civil Rights' law, I will no longer voice communicate with any American 'The Land of freedom and Civil Rights' citizens at all unless they tell me beforehand that they are not a terrorist.

I feel my boycotts against these American 'The Land of Freedom and Civil Rights' services and people will somehow better the world.. just like America 'The land of Freedom and civil rights' is making leaps and bounds forwards in civil rights and freedoms every day.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to post this quote from my reputation:
I don't get how you support home invasions half the time, and then bas the USA for having them the other half. Do you have a definite opinion, or do you just like being a jerk?
I would also like to take this opporunity to say that some of you are really nice people, just for a group so oppressed and restricted you all think you're pretty well off and that confuses me

Yeah I know exactly what your talking about. I've been to network rooms with armed guards "literally" watching my every move. When I would take a leak, he would watch. When I would break for a smoke, he would watch.

I understand the whole security thing so it did not bug me in the least but trying to talk to one of these security guys and it's like talking to a brick wall...nothing.

I'm not happy to give up any bit of my freedom for a little bit of added protection for any reason.

Freedom and peace are 2 separate roads. I'm ok with having some risks in life. Without them it would be very boring.

I'm with MonkeyHead. In my view, I'd let the Gov't do what it has to do to help keep what we have.

God forbid something 911'ish happened again, and we found out "after the fact" that the Gov't could have caught them if they had... people would be yelling "negligance" in not taking those steps.

If you're not doing anything wrong, then what's to worry about? I don't see it as an invasion of my privacy, as it's not going to change my daily routine one single bit!

The Patriot Act took care of the need for a warrant. Its not needed under the act.

"Under CALEA, police must still follow legal procedures when wiretapping Internet communications. Depending on the situation, such wiretaps do not always require court approval, in part because of expanded wiretapping powers put in place by the USA Patriot Act. "
