    Homeland Security...Goes High.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will raise the nation's terror alert level to 'high' on December 21, 2003, warning of a high risk of attack, U.S. officials said. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge will make the announcement at 1:30 p.m. EST, raising the color-coded alert warning system to orange, or 'high,' from yellow, or an 'elevated' risk of attack, the officials said. With the information that they're giving out, it almost sounds like something's going to happen on Christmas day...

To be honest with you, it should have stayed high since 9/11. JMHO.

It's a little hard to keep it at that level for a prolonged time...Mostly due to the Border backups...When it gets to a High level, on a busy day, Trucks are backed up for Umteen miles trying to get into/out of the states...

It's a tuff call to administer that type of security level, when some 80% of all imports into the U.S.A come from Canada and visa versa...If anyone lives near a border town, they know what I'm referring too..Very hard to have those extended customs checks going on too long..

it is a tough one for sure and yes, it is an inconvenience. It is necessary because we are involved. The terrorists that we are dealing with have no regard for life. They will give up theirs to kill thousands for a cause. I rather there be dam traffic jams then more people killed. JMHO.

I Hear Ya.....When you are involved in the Economy Side of the U.S.A/Canada trade response....It's not that easy.

I agree though, these fools have no regard for their own lives, why would we expect them to regard anothers..

When 9/11 happened...Relief Fund Assoc...Pro Bono on my part..I took a few days off of work, they were looking for drivers to drive Ryder rental trucks (18 Wheelers)to bring foodstuffs/supplies into Manhattan from Buffalo....So off I went, called work told them I needed time off....(They actually paid my wages for the lost time..Nice of them)

Took a load to the isle, went through red tape galore at the GW...All kinds of the same thing getting in and out of the Apple..I stayed down there a few days passing out supplies, helpin where I could.

I had been in NY 100's of times prior to this, used to do a 25 to 30 stop office furniture drop..Stayed in Mon to Fri downtown..6 Americas..Yada Yada...

I would'nt have missed this opportunity for the world..Site to behold and eyes full of pain...

My brother works for the NYPD. His job was to lead those deliveries into the city.

Believe me when I tell you, I understand where you are coming from.

I just watched the Homeland Security Press Conference

They are saying its the highest volume of chatter from credible sources since 9/11.

Well, my last Christmas gathering for the year is on Christmas eve and it is in Manhattan. I am still going.

They might as well put it at Severe and leave it, since an attack can occur at any time. They'll look like even bigger dolts should we be at yellow and someone nukes a major city or something.

By it's very nature, "terrorism" doesn't need any sign or warning before an attack.

I wonder how many times our terror alert will be raised before this turns into a little boy crying wolf...

they just raise it arbitrarily to make it seem like the department of "Homeland Security" is doing something IMO.
who knows, I could be wrong, but I hope I'm not and nothing happens. I mean, we FINALLY got Saddam right? That means there should be no more terrorism right? Isn't he like, the head terrorist? Isn't that why we went into Iraq besides the WMD, because he was the terrorist mastermind?

    Merry Christmas all!

He's one of many. Osama's the main dude that's the biggest threat. We just got lucky and put one out of business. There's many more to go before we can even come close to relaxing.

This latest threat sounds pretty serious. Their news conference yesterday was 'hastily' organized.

Just by the talk in this thread (not directed at you Blisster) we have become complacent once again. That, in itself, is a bigger enemy than the actual terrorism. We create their opportunities with our complacency.

If raising the scales makes this country become more aware, and it does then it is far from useless.

As for crying wolf, that would be a shame if people did that. Some never learn I suppose.
