    CPU safe temps ???

I am having a strange issue with temps. I finally got my XFX MB to read the CPU right , but it shows the temps at 10+ degrees higher than I ever saw on my old MB.
I have upped the alarm temps, have my A/C cranking and the sides off the case with a 10" fan blowing in it to help.
On my old FIC , with all the same hardware this AMD 1700+ ran at a smooth 35-39c , now it runs , or this board reports it at 50-53c !
yes I have 3 case fans not counting the PS , CPU , or V Card, and all the fans are spinning as they should. Plenty of grease between the HS & CPU.

*** No overclocking*** all running at the 2x133 ( cpu & ram )
I cant get help from XFX ( Pine ) , sat on hold for 30 mins already.

the board is a XFX NF2S-ALH I got it for the possible future upgrade to a Barton CPU & some 400 mhz DDR.

    thanks in advance,

oh yes, arctic silver. cleaned the old off with alcohol , and the heat sink is on correctly. CPU fan spins within spec's.

been there , done that too. Just recleaned the HS & cpu, applied new grease ... again . Still the same .
The worst part is I spent good money , and they arent giving me answers. I should have bought another FIC , like the old one. It ran awesome , till it started to die.

I DONT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. "XFX" SUX. THEY DONT SUPPORT THEIR PRODUCTS. or apparently dont seem to care , they got their money, I got garbage. ( it runs , but way too hot )

The sensor could just read high. also check the manual. see if its reading from the internal diode or not.

Abit boards report higher temps, doesn't make the board bad, but yes XFX/Pine isn't the best.

What proggie are you using to monitor temps? The BIOS hardware monitor?

I have Sisoft installed.... and Winbond HW Doctor ( as a second reference ) , and in the BIOS in the PC Health all show the same issues. HOT HOT HOT. I have emailed XFX numerous times , posted at their forum , and at Motherboards.Org looking for answers. ( basically hoping someone had a different slant on something I might have overlooked ) Not so.

I am stuck with it till some money shakes loose to get a replacement , so I can swap over to the new , and RMA this to them . ( I will tell them to keep it , I dont want it replaced, just a refund )

I should have stayed with my favorite , FIC. They now have a NForce board out that I will try next. My old AN17 served me well , and didnt give any trouble till right at the end.

Try using motherboard monitor 5, and make sure its reading the right sensor.

Did that, it wouldnt read the sensors , this one I have does for NForce boards.
I also have the NVidia Nforce utility , but it doesnt do much , Sisoft tells all I really need.
I will do like I said, I have already asked for a RMA , and will get the cash together for the replacement ( while I send this one back ) .... I would EXPLODE if a day went by w/o my internet ! hahaha, addicted !
I see the spec's on yours , sounds sweet . I am workin on a tight budget , but will eventually build a new rig , and pass this one totally to my wife , who uses it when I am off it.

SpeedGuide ROCKS ! Folding for Team 15 !

It's highly possible that the temp you're getting is from the internal diode. General the internal reading is ~10C higher than the "usual" readings.

Anohter possibility is that you applied too much grease so instead of transfering the heat to the heatsink it's actually doing the opposite.

possible, but not probable on the amount of grease... I spread it thin on the sink , and just a real small dab on the cpu. it was shown to me a few years ago by a knowledgable tech I knew then.
as to the diode ??? not sure , I cant get a white paper on the board yet.
thanks for the tips, I will get another like I said . or they will email me an answer to it... hahaha , it's been 2 weeks since the first I sent them on it.

Ya if these temps are off the int. diode I wouldn't worry.
