    My new purchases

    Just ordered from Newegg.

I wanted to try some different brands this time around and really focus on budget.

    List is as follows-

    AMD Barton 2500+ 333FSB Retail
Albatron KT600 Pro Mobo VIA based chipset
1 gig Corsair 3200 Value select series
80 gig 7200 RPM Seagate HDD
Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB Vid card
    Samsung 52x CDROM
    Linksys HPNA200 network card
Maxtop CSX147K, 2 Fan case /w out PSU

I will be using the Vantec 420 PSU in my current system as well the mouse and keyboard. I'll be salvaging old floppy and DVD-ROM drives from an older comp.

My friend bought an Albatron P4 board awhile back and really likes it. I'll be curious to see how well it performs with AMD. The reviews at Newegg were good and it seems to do well with OC'ing.

Purchased PC3200 RAM for the overclock. I hope to push the processor to near 3200+ speeds.

Went with a Seagate because I've heard some good things about them and need to try something besides WD.

Not bad considering I got it all for a smidge under $650 with shipping. I'll let you guys know how she runs once the parts arrive.

The Albatron KX600 Pro is an AWESOME overclocker!!! I have one and its stable and quick.

2 things, If you have 2 sticks of memory, be sure to put it in slots 1-3 or 2-3 as it says in the manual.

Don't unplug the surge protector if you are adjusting the multiplyer because it will reset the values.

Other than that its a sweet board for the price.

Parts came in yesterday and spent last night building this baby.

Preliminary accessment is good. Albatron BIOS and OC'ing features are very nice and easy to use. Running default atm to work the bugs out.

My only issue thus far has been the Radeon 9600 Pro. Fekkin weird errors cropping up after about a minute of running. I think I've fixed the problem by disabling fast writes in BIOS and ATI control panel AS WELL AS notching down from AGPx8 to AGPx4.

I may try leaving it AGPx4 and reactivating Fast Writes. Obviously I'm not the first person to experience this but I have to say my P4 setup with the Radeon 9700Pro works without a hiccup.

Well time to install the audio & USB driver's and let her burn in for a day or 2. Need to install Mobo monitor as well and then try and push the system a little.

Almost forgot...one gripe about this case I bought is that it's top blow hole fan is too far rear to fit my Vantec 420 PSU. Currently I have my old 340 watt PSU running in the system. I'm not planning on running alot of peripherals. What do you guys think, do I need more juice?

I may reverse mount the blow hole fan on the outside of the case. Then cut a slot in the top to feed the power cord through in order to fit the larger 420 PSU.

BLAH! 2 random reboots for no apparent reasons. I have a feeling my 340watt PSU isn't going to hack it. ****!
