Burke, or peeps who have used M-Audio Revolution (problem)

a buddy of mine is havin some trouble with his m-audio revolution here's what he said:

    Hey Brent,

Well, the easiest way to explain this is to list out the main issues I’ve found:

    1) Regardless of connection type or config, sound only comes from front two satellite speakers

    2) Logitech Z-680’s do not detect any signal when using the digital Coax connection

    3) When using analog mode, sound comes from front two satellites, but the sound is VERY quiet…all volumes are maxed out…though the resulting sound is faint at best

    Here are the system specs:

    2.4C P4

    Abit IS7-E ( onboard audio disabled )

    512MB Corsair PC3200

    Radeon 9700 Pro

WD Raptor w/ 80GB SE Secondary

    M-Audio Revolution w/ latest drivers

Logitech Z-680 using either 3-cable analog or digital coax connection

Any input you can provide is greatly appreciated… ;D

Brent, according to the ABIT forums some of the new IC7 and IS7 motherboards are experiencing major issues with regards to sound.

A couple people even claimed it wasn't just the onboard sound oe IRQ issues but an actual problem in the PCI bus. I read of 2 seperate people that claimed the PCI bus issue not only sapped their onboard sound but also ruined add-in soundcards that they installed.

Here is the definitive thread link. You'll see other related threads linked inside under the first post-

    here

Also here is a fairly good quote talking about the PCI bus issue-

    Hey man!

Earlier in this thread, there were people who had probs with it that no sound card would help. It seems like there was interference with the whole PCI bus... Which means anything on the PCI bus (IDE HDD, anything in the PCI slots) could be affected. In these cases, you'd have to RMA to get them to "fix" some passive components, but of course you'll have to uninstall the whole system, pay to ship it out, and reinstall the whole system...

And who knows, that board you're getting may not be new and probably isn't.

    1. Maybe the 680's are not supported by the Revolution's auto-config settings?

    2. No clue.

    3. The System audio sliders are useless with the Revolution...did he try the one in the M-Audio Control Panel?

Brent: Did you do a forum search for "Revolution"? (sorry, had to ask). There seemed to be a few other peeps with similiar problems. Burke had a nice post on how to properly setup the card etc.
