His wife, Vimla, said: "Every evening he looks at the sun for one hour without batting an eyelid. It is his main food.

Okay then, here's some moon for dessert:

to me it shows NASA is indeed interested in alternative methods for things and is willing to investigate different methods

i'm glad NASA is very active in research still, even if space exploration is kind of slow going right now

i'm glad there still active in research too, but i'm sure this would make the physical requirements much harder on the astronauts. besides the fact that i think this is a fluke

this is no fluke. If you look at the effects of light deprivation AND what the solution is, you'll clearly see that this has to be true. Light deprivation is serious and has serious effects on the body. Suicides during the extended winter up in Alaska are disproportionate to the rest of the US. Hell, look at the rainy northwest....is it just a coincidence that most serial killers come from Washington state? Ted Bundy was born and raised in Washington. Look at the northern European countries as well. They prescribe UV light therapy during the winter months for all their residents.

So if not getting sunlight is bad...then getting sunlight is good.

But maybe we don't need as much food, which is a benefit to society as a whole because we only have so many resources to go around. World population is rising while food crops are dwindling.

well now we're turnign this into a worldwide thing. i'm not saying sunlight is bad or not to try it for regular ppl if this works, i'm saying i dont think it will, adn that even if it does i think it will make the space program harder for astronauts.

as for the food issue, theres enough, just ppl trying to make money kills some of the crops. too much is wasted. i also think family armers or local farmers need more compensation or bigger tax breaks and that the US should protect its farm land.

at any rate we will have discovered something new to do about the food issue before it becomes teh #1 issue.

You missed the point....think of sunlight as a supplement, just like vitamins. Studying this guy is important because for space travel to succeed, we can't take loads of food with us. If we can figure out how to lighten the food load by increasing our dosage to sunlight, then it makes the mission more efficient.

I agree that sunlight can't replace all of our dependence on food but it sure can't hurt to see if we can do without as much food.

Hmm I dint read all of your replies but quick lil question

If you dont need food to survive if you have sunlight..

Starving kids.. Africa??? Lots of sun in Africa, no food, getting my drift?

What are they gonna do when this guy dies from not eating. Will nasa be responsible? UOD I disagree that most serial killers come from the Northwest. Also too much UV light is bad for humans especially caucasian people. Humans need some form of food to survive. Eventually they will die of starvation. This is a hoax IMO.

perhaps they aren't doing it right, it said he stares at the sun for a time period, in the evenning or something

perhaps a little meditation is in order as well

who knows, but NASA is gonna study it, then maybe we will know

I think UOD may be right, its not that you will never have to eat again

its that you can go longer without having to eat, like a supplement of sorts

plus, this guy does drink liquids still

That may be true but the article said this guy hasnt eaten since 1995. He would have died by 1996 if that was the case. Unless of course he is only "drinking" some sort of fortified liquid then maybe but water and tea will only get you so far then you buy the farm.
