DVD burner. + or - or other

DVD burner question for ya. I understand you can buy +/- compatible drives but they tend to run alot more $$$. Which standard is going to stick? What is the more popular standard as of late? Does one standard have advantages over the other?

Also, who makes a good DVD burner these days? NEC, Sony, Panasonic, others...

    Thanks,

    Chim

Pioneer has been in the market with the DVD-r for the most ammount of time. I have purchase two of their drives and have been elated with both of them.

The good news is that the market has driven teh prices down quite well. The NEC unit is very affordable. BenQ announced an 8X sometime later this year.

Media compatibility is always an issue. Again, I do like the pioneer/cendyne models.

DVD+R/W is the most compatible, but i would still invest in a dvd+-r/w drive.

Not really. I have yet to have a disk not play on a DVD player with either of my Pioneer burners.

No one seems to agree which has better stand alone compatibility.
