Weird Comcast Cable DNS issue.

Hi All,

I just started using Comcast Cable Modem service about 2 weeks ago and eventhough I love the fast speed, I am having some problems. When I surf to some websites they don't load, instead they give me the error:

The page cannot be displayed

This is not the only problem; when I attempt to connect to my favorite BattleField 1942 (Desert Command) server fez.cracksmokingmonkeys.net the game constantly fails to connect. But, if I use the ip to get to the game server without issue. I am having this same behavior with a program called TeamSpeak2 (Voice over IP program) when using the server name it fails to connect, but, if I use the IP it connects every time.

The hardware being used is as follows:
-Cable Modem=RCA DCM315
-Router/Firewall=Dlink DI-604 (LAN side of the cable modem)
-3 Computers on the Network all connect via the Router/Firewall.
-The OS's on the computers 2 - WindowsXP Pro and 1 - Linux(Lycoris distro).

The entire setup worked fine when I was using DSL; the Firewall was configured properly, the 3 computer surfed the net, I played my games and used my VOIP without issue. But, now; enter the cable modem and I have nothing but, weird inconsistant connection problems.

Any help you could give would be great, Thanks.

P.S. I don't mean to be rude, but, I don't need a bunch of ppl saying "I heard you can't use a firewall inside a Cable modem". I don't mind the comment but, I need answers not awknowledgement that this is a problem, I know that already.

It appears to me that Comcast's DNS servers are not resolving the sites I want to get to.

I've had any problem setting up routers behind cable or DSL. Sometimes you can get better DNS performance by assigning static LAN IP's to your computer behind a router, instead of using the default "Obtain IP Auto", which also happens to get the router in the middle of DNS requests by having it forward DNS. Entering your ISP's DNS servers directly can help with some issues. Or if you know of other DNS servers you'd rather use.

I did as you asked read that document you asked and it worked great:2cool: . Inside my router/firewall I left the DHCP enabled and assigned Static IP for all the nodes on the network and I am using Comcasts DNS servers along with my routers/firewalls as DNS server. I am getting everything to resolve using the DNS servers with friendly names and I don't need to refresh website for them to load properly. I am so, happy.
