    roadrunner modems

I live in a duplex and my neighbor recently got a PC, I took my modem over and sure enough he had RR, and a differnent Ip than me, So I advised him to just buy a high speed modem from Best Buy, well 2 modems later neither worked, Yet the Toshiba of mine that I took over continued to give him internet, So I am wondering if RR has their own little chip in there that makes it differ from a store bought or what.... Any reply to this would be greatly appreciated...... Thank You

Welcome to Speedguide, your neighbor has to call RoadRunner and give them the MAC address of the modem he is using to get service.

and hopefully they don't say "you have to use our modems, we don't provision modems purchased by the customer" which is the case where I live.. use our $1.98 walmart modems or be without roadrunner.

It sounds to me like the neighbor does not subscribe to the Roadrunner service.

He also is in an area where RR supplies the modem and does not permit the user of subscriber-owned modems.
