We don't know. Hopefully the big guy will return. Perhaps he stepped outside for a smoke and lost his way. Time will tell.

    Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows ME) Opera 6.05 [en]
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

    TCP options string = 020405b4

    MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

    MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
    Unscaled Receive Window = 17520
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
    513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
    256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
    128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
    64240 (MSS x 44)

    bandwidth * delay product:
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 18 hops
    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = OFF

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

I've got insanely high pings before and after I used those settings you suggested, the speed tests I do show that it's supposedly going nicely, but I can tell that same cripsness in how fast the pages show up just isn't there. Does anyone know where I can find that FTP test that was in Mnosteeles post in his my tips thread? that was the test I always used to test my speed. I don't even have the speed burst at the start of surfing. It's very bad.

Here's the link to that FTP test

    FTP Speed Test

Those settings I gave you are from mnosteele's tip page except for the RWIN Value. It's one that has worked well for me in the past with your OS . What are your service caps?

There really isn't much you can do about the Latency though.

    I'm with Comcast, 1500 down, 128 up

I never really messed with cablenut settings before, I just ran 10 pings of some sites I would go to and then use the RWIN formula and figure out an RWIN, atleast that's what I used to do when my pings weren't out in the stratosphere. They used to be 40-90 now they are like 600-900. IT"S CRAZY

Can you post a tracert of one of those sites? If it's in the first 2 or 3 hops then it could be a problem with yor ISP. If it's after that then it's a router problem at another backbone.

Try these RWIN Values. All based on your 1500 cap with different Latency values. Turn WIndows Scaling on for values over 65535

    18980
    27400
    37960
    46720
    55480
    65700
    110960
    138700
    166440
    164180
    221920
    249660
    277400
    305140
    332880
    360620
    388360

I know what a tracert is but I do not know how to do them
When I did the 64 meg FTP test, the speed settled in at about 168KB/s .....just for information sake, I'm on Windows ME

    It's not a p3, it's a p2 333Mhz. And I honestly don't know the rest of that question.

It always worries me when people say don't worry about something, and I don't know what that something is. When I opened the case before I noticed there was a small black rectangle that said pentium II on it, it wasn't like a chip on the motherboard, it was almost like a card in a slot. Is that the answer to your questions? And how do I do that tracert thing someone was asking about?
