    Okey i seem to need help please

    Hello
    i have just changed from optus cable ( which was great besides the 3 gig limits etc )

    and have now changed to iinet adsl 512

    i have just started to download a demo at a wopping speed of 5.6kb/sec lol

    anyway decided to do this analyzer and here it is as follows.

    TCP options string = 0204059c01010402

    MTU = 1476
    MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

    MSS = 1436
    Maximum useful data in each packet = 1436, which equals MSS.
    MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

    Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64620
    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
    Unscaled Receive Window = 64620
    RWIN is a multiple of MSS
    Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
    505472 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
    252736 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
    126368 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
    63184 (MSS x 44)

    bandwidth * delay product:
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2584.8 kbps (323.1 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1033.92 kbps (129.24 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

    Time to live left = 114 hops
    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

    IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

    P.S OS is winXP

    Thanks Guys

    OK first things first.... we need to get your MTU set propelry before anything else. If your DSL is PPPoE and you are using XP's software it needs to be 1480, if you are using your ISPs software it should be 1492, if it is normal DSL then it should be 1500. Look in my Help & Tips link for some fixes for your MTU.

    Sorry if some of my questions seem a bit out, but very new to this adsl.
    only had it for 12 hours atm...

    anyway from what i can guess, the modem is a d-link dsl300
    and when i g to the modems properties it shows PPPoE.

    So as quoted by you ---if your DSL is PPPoE and you are using XP's software it needs to be 1480 ----

    So i have just looked at your tip post, and from what im guessing i'll need the xp mtu.reg to merge ?
    is this correct mnosteele52 ?

    thanks

    Possibly..... did you have to install any software from your ISP? If so then you are using their setup and your MTU should be 1492.... if no, then yes use the fix to make it 1480.

    Okey i have merged the reg file and gone into the regedit.
    changed decimal to 1480. hit ok
    and rebooted.

    went back into speedguide and did the same test.
    as follows

    MTU = 1476
    MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

    hmm Still the same

    OK my next question is do you have a Linksys NIC? If so look under the advanced tab for it's properties and disable the setting "priority packet", this will set your MTU to 1480.

    Do you have a Linksys ethernet card installed on your pc? Look in your device manager and see.

    OK you still haven't confirmaed whether or not you are using XP's PPPoE setup? Also did you try all the other fixes for your MTU I suggested?

    well mnosteele52 , i havnt installed anything from the cd that came with the modem.
    just connected the cable and telephone cord to modem and power.
    went into modems config http://192.168.blah blah
    and placed login and password.
    that was it, then hit connect.

    p.s only tried the reg file and edited the 1480.

    what else can i try then that may unlock it ?
    thanks

    I have looked around, but cannot seem to get the mtu to 1480 for some reason

    Would i need to take power of the modem ?

    There wasnt any software installed for the d-link 300 adsl modem .

    OK then let's work around it, use the folowing settings in CableNut:

    DefaultReceiveWindow = 65536
    DefaultSendWindow = 16384
    DisableAddressSharing = 1
    InitialLargeBufferCount = 100
    InitialMediumBufferCount = 240
    InitialSmallBufferCount = 320
    LargeBufferSize = 81920
    MaxFastTransmit = 64000
    MediumBufferSize = 15040
    PriorityBoost = 0
    SmallBufferSize = 1280
    TransmitWorker = 32
    FastSendDatagramThreshold = 1024
    EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
    EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
    IgnorePushBitsOnReceive = 0
    GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 17232
    MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
    MaxHashTableSize = 16384
    MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
    SackOpts = 1
    SynAttackProtect = 1
    Tcp1323Opts = 0
    TcpLogLevel = 1
    TcpMaxDupAcks = 2
    TcpMaxHalfOpen = 100
    TcpMaxHalfRetried = 80
    TcpRecvSegmentSize = 1436
    TcpSendSegmentSize = 1436
    TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
    TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
    TcpWindowSize = 17232
    MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 8
    MaxConnectionsPerServer = 4
    DefaultTTL = 128
    DisableUserTOSSetting = 0
    TcpMaxDataRetransmissions = 6
    DefaultTOSValue = 92

    VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING

    1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

    2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

    3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

    4. Clear your temporary internet files.

    5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

    6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot, anything checked in red is spyware and safe to remove.

    7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link.

    Look under your ICS settings in your registry and see what the MTU is set to.... that might be what's limiting yours. Also you would be much better off with a router to share your connection, files & printer.

    Okey followed the instruction for cablenut, and spybot didnt find any spyware. then cleared internet explorer.
    went to my iinet ftp and dl a 13meg file at 50.4kbs hmm

    anyway heres the test
    TCP options string = 0204059c01010402

    MTU = 1476
    MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

    bandwidth * delay product:
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 689.28 kbps (86.16 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 275.712 kbps (34.464 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
    Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

    Time to live left = 114 hops
    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

    IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00011100
    Precedence (priority) = 000 (routine)
    Delay = 1 (low delay)
    Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
    Reliability = 1 (high reliability)
    Cost = 0 (normal cost)

    Thanks
