Re: New PC build

For the RAM: I like G.Skill, but I always prefer the 1.20-1.25v modules rather than 1.35v. The lower voltage variants don't run as hot, and I think are better quality chips. They're usually very similarly priced. CPU: You're getting about 22k CPUMark score, it's a good processor for a budget build, ...

It's that time of the year again... SG has been online for 25 years as of today. It's been a wild ride, thanks to all those that have been around for years, helping others and being part of the SG community!

I guess it's easier than remembering passwords, other than that there is no "need" to switch. I will eventually use them when they become popular across sites I visit I suppose.

Strange that the Cisco prep wasn't thorough enough. Important thing is that you are learning what you need to do better for next time, you will pass it once you put enough time in it I am sure.

There is a person that researches and adds ports info weekly. We also update based on feedback from users, mainly from the comments section on port ...

Re: Router Upgrade Time

I think it is under WAN > DDNS
https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1011725/

Then you may have to change the settings in your app, and maybe enable remote/WAN access to the router. You can test if it works by disabling Wi-Fi on your phone, and see if it can connect using your cell service.

Re: Router Upgrade Time

I haven't played with it much... But, in general, if you want the app and/or "cloud storage" from a plugged-in USB drive available from other locations, you have to use dynamic host-to-IP address mapping, and use that hostname to connect to your router. Asus has a service like that, just l...

I like to keep my browser addons and anti-virus light on resources, Ublock origin is good enough for me to block annoying ads. As far as more "advanced" browser protections, I tried a few long time ago, but they seemed to slow down browsing, and were heavy on resources, I did not like them.

Maybe your router, or another device/node near you is limiting the total amount of memory allocated for you, split between your buffers.

Re: Bufferbloat doesn't want to give me an A + :-(

That's the only way to control the TCP Window "buffer" under Windows 10/11. I wouldn't worry about it much. Reducing the TCP Window would only reduce throughput if the node is overloaded and you are transferring large amounts of data at the same time. In an unlikely situation like that, it...

Re: Bufferbloat doesn't want to give me an A + :-(

As I said before, if you want to reduce your buffers, you can change "TCP Window Auto tuning" to restricted. I wouldn't recommend it though, as it limits your throughput, and doesn't usually help latency.

Re: Bufferbloat doesn't want to give me an A + :-(

Welcome Maks :) I don't worry about that bufferbloat score much, it is not necessarily a problem. It would only reduce your speeds in the presence of packet loss. The "buffer" it refers to is the TCP Window, which is automatically controlled in Windows 10/11. Having large TCP Window allows...

Re: What is the download speed?

You should not see any speed difference if you downgrade. If you're only getting 5-8 mbps on your wireless, you can ugprade your Wi-Fi router, or try to compare what the speed is over a wired ethernet connection. The difference between megabits per second and Megabytes per second is close to 10:1......

Re: TCP Optimizer question

Hello, It depends on the Operating system. In Windows 10/11, it only changes the optimal TCP Window Auto-Tuning algorithm for slow connections, i.e. dial-up, and up to ~1 Mbps. In older versions of Windows, it progressively changes the amount of allocated memory for the TCP Window. I hope this helps.

Hi Burke! :) I am not sure what your exact problem is from the screenshot, maybe try to get a tech on site to troubleshoot? A high number of "corrected" errors on the OFDM PLC channel is kind of normal, it's a very wide channel passing a lot of data. How is your upstream power? https://www...

I usually use a "Wifi Analyzer" app on my phone to see what other networks are in the area before picking an uncongested channel. In general, 2.4GHz channels overlap by 3 in either direction, so the only completely non-overlapping channels in the same area would be 1,6,11. Many routers use...

Some of the settings may not be there, or slightly different between the models. The 20 vs. 40MHz channels - it depends on what your client devices can handle, many can't deal with wider channels. Having older standards supported like 802.11b/g also limits the speed/bandwidth available to all device...
