Hi Paft, thanks for the insight. I am no economist, but the current rate of US Debt increase seems unsustainable either. Interest payments on the debt are one of the biggest expenses, estimated close to $400 billion this fiscal year, or 6.8% of all federal outlays. Our debt (as percentage of GDP) i...

Well this is concerning. We moved away from any sort of asset-backing standard a long while ago (the end of the Bretton Woods system in the early 70s) for a good reason; it seems like folks pushing for a return to it are refusing to look at history and just want to return to bad ideas. Especially wh...

Twitter, yes, through the third party Nitter. That generates a native RSS feed, no RSS Bridge required. Discord - Unsure. It's possible that a bot exists to turn a Discord channel (or set of channels) into an RSS feed; I haven't looked too much into it. I'd be wary about that considering how fast so...

I'm not too keen on the current economic state, especially with investments. I've been down much more than I've been up over the last three years, and given the BS that was the debt ceiling negotiation, plus the massive case of irrational exuberance over AI that's causing a deep gutting of mid-level...

So with the collapse of a lot of major centralized services (Twitter, Discord, Reddit, etc.) I've noticed that folks have started spreading out into multiple disparate areas again. I also noticed that I was spending more and more time trying to track them all down and keep up with them on a handful ...

Really, anything more formal than that just seems to lead to cliques and keyboard warriors (good term; definitely stole that) that makes the plac...

I got into this quite a bit. Depositing into my TSP (government retirement) is fine and all, but it's nice to have a small cushion account that gets a couple percent of my salary per check. It's not huge, but it's nice to have just in case.

Covid-19 has definitely turned into a joke at the VA hospital I just started work at. The doctors and nurses by and large resent the mask protocols and the social distancing protocols, a good number of them even going so far as to say, "These do not work; we see just as many if not more cases o...

Hi Paft, very well put. That's exactly what's happening in my view as well. While this might be great for casual use, it doesn't always work for more complex tasks and p...

I suspect a lot of it is that user interfaces have reached the point where they are "pick up and understand". There's no incentive to learn what goes on under the hood because everything a person really needs to do is easily available. It's not a bad thing, per se, but it is sad to see tha...
