Yeah, the above 2 cards I love...my fave is the 3COM 905 series, the Intels are a close second, there are no third places. I'll only use the above 2. (coming from a network engineer who works with NICs ...all...the...time)

The 3COM drivers....assuming you already have one installed, you download the new file, save it in some directory, say C:\Download\Nic. Once the download is complete, double click the file, it will self extract from a DOS box into that directory. Then go to Device Mangler, find your NIC under Networ...

Dunno how much you wanna dig, I wish I could find the issue for you, but in PCWorld I believe last spring, there was an article on Cable vs DSL, and they had a blurb on some software that could sniff out your node, and tell you how many were on it. There are other ways beside calling your ISP who pr...

It's a rule of thumb that I got from the UT admin page a few years back, I've followed it, and I've tested it, and by golly, through personal experience testing it, it appears to hold true. True peeps still connecting on the old dial ups you don't get the actual throughput that the negotiation lets ...

A good rule of thumb for hosting servers based on the UT engine, which can apply to other games as well...you want minimim 28.8 available for each player logged in. So take your tested actual upload speed, TESTED AVERAGE from several speed test sites, not what your ISP tells you it is, and divide th...

Depends which is more important to you. Your differences are not that big...not like you're comparing 40 pings to 140 pings, or 60 kb to 600 kb. For me, online gaming performance is the most important, which is why I have aDSL. In my area (and this varies from area to area, also on which ISP you use...

If you swapped IP's, and a particular IP always takes the longer or shorter route, then it's the way your ISP handles that IP. Do you have the exact same DNS servers, in the same order, on all 3?

If your ISP requires a username and a password, sounds like you need PPPoE. One way to find out...try just logging on to your ISP without PPPoE, just set your IP to obtain automatically, and reboot. See what happens. As far as the routers go, just about all of the routers out there such as the Links...
