Cisco 675 Connecting with WinPoet
If there is anyone with knowledge of the Cisco 675 DSL router and especially Verizon DSL in Massachusetts I need help.
The external DSL modem that Verizon provides (Sorry, I don't have the name right now.), must be connected directly to the NIC on the PC in order to work. The connection is made using WinPoet by Wind River Software. They utilyze VPN for the connection. I want to set up a LAN using a Cisco 675 DSL router that I have from using Qwest DSL in AZ. The 675 does DHCP and NAT and it handles the connection itself so none of the LAN PCs needs to be on or be a server. I tried configuring the 675 to connect to Verizon, but all I can come up with is setting the user name and password in the 675's CBOS. The connection is never established. I believe the 675 tries to connect using PPP, so I think that Verizon wants some other protocol used to establish the connection. I can't find anything in the documentation for the 675 that helps. I also checked the setup manual for the Qwest DSL to see what I had to configure in AZ and really it was just enabling DHCP and NAT and then setting the user name and password. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Verizon DSL (This link may not work unless you have a Verizon account.) Cisco 675 |
Verizon is using PPPOE for authentication. It consists on a PPPOE protocol, ID, and Password.
If the Router is PPPOE capable you insert the ID and PW to the PPPOE menu, and you can get rid of WinPOET, Netscape and all the rest of Verizon software. I am not sure that the 675 is straight PPPOE capable. This Cisco link provides general instructions about PPPOE: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/...ppoe.htm#95968 |
