Well, my modem has a built in router so it's not separate. I used to be able to change my IP address easily with a linksys router but my ISP, WideOpenWest, recommended this to my dad and of course my dad wouldn't deny tips of an "Expert". I used to be able to change the mac address via router, 192.168.2.1, which changed my IP instantly. Now.......I can't change it at all. I tried this one method where I saved settings, changed the mac address, then loaded it but the IP changes only for about 10 seconds and then goes to what it was before I did the whole settings thing. I tried leaving it off for about a couple hours but that didn't change anything plus it seems like it would be to annoying to change it like that. Can someone help me on finding a fast and easy way to change my IP address.

I have Arris TM552
Firmware Version: 1218
Boot Version: 2.03
Hardware: TM552

TL;DR I can't change my IP address with my new router no matter how many times I try.

I recently bought a Belkin N+ router to connect to the Arris modem provided by Comcast. The modem itself is definitely connect to the internet; I have plugged the Ethernet cable directly into my computer and connected to the internet. And for a while, the connection was transferred to my router and wireless network. It worked for a few days, but then something happened and these two lights, the 'Modem' light and 'Internet' light, began to flash. Now I can no longer connect to the network, and, through the router, cannot access the internet. What gives?

Changed SSID - now getting limited or no connectivity...

Today I changed the only the SSID on a Linksys Wireless Access Point (WAP54G) that is primarily used for security cameras, but also acts as a wireless device for the occassional customer that needs internet connectivity.

I changed the SSID of this to differentiate it from the router whose name was very similar.

Anyway, the only thing I changed was the SSID - i left everything else the same; there is no encryption, the SSID is broadcast and it's at channel 6.

The last 2 weeks a person we are working w/ has come in and connected w/ his laptop wirelessly to the AP without a hiccup. Today, however, he cannot make the connection; receives the message above.

I am two hours away so I tried walking him through several steps to make the connection including removing the wireless networks from the Preferred Wireless Networks list (on his laptop, which runs WXP) in the Network Settings/WAN/Properties/Wireless Network Tab. We also tried rebooting. Refreshing Networks, etc. When I did ipconfig /all, no IP address displays for any of his adapters. (I'd have thought I'd at least get the IP address that MS hands out when there is no router).

That didn't resolve the issue either. There is wireless router that NO changes were made to; he gets the same message when he tries to connect to it.

Is it possible it's on his (the laptops) side or have I missed something in the setup of the AP?

My cameras are all statically assigned, as is the AP - if that matters...

New here but really could use help with my situation. It has become a pain in my butt to say the least.

Ok here is what I have. Currently the place that I work will not provide a server and server software. We have 10 work computers, and EMBARCO cable modem.

Since I started wrking here I got rid of the wirless router they used to link the 4 comuters they were using. The place has grown and we added 6 other computers to the work place.

For security I wanted to get rid of the wirless and I ran CAT5 cable to each location.

I ran CAT5 from the Embarco modem to a Netgear 16 Port Gigabit Switch, from here I ran CAT5 to boxes I mounted in the wall where users plug into.

Everything was fine untill we added all the computers.

We use two computers for people to sign in and this is linked to an Access program running on the shared folder on the home network.

The problems I am having and continually run inot is loss of connection on computers. Some days this computer will have connection some day's it won't this happens with various computers on the network, never can I get all 10 computers up and running with internet or on the network all at once.

Can anyone help me figure out how to make this work with 10 computers? Any help would be valuable.

Here is a visual:

Cable Modem---->Netgear 16 Port Switch------> User 1-11------>11 being a wirless router

At the small business I am working I was recently hired, and along with being the shipping manager so to say, I am the IT Admin also, well the previous guy who setup the network left me with absolute no information, and now I have to reconfigure everything.

Here's how it goes everything from the Gateway if its a straight connection, from it the computers connect to the internet no problem, once I connect the the wireless router to the gateway, and connect all the computer, the router disables any internet connection. I disabled and enabled DHCP to no avail.

My router is a DIR-Link 615 Wireless, and my gateway is a DI-604.
Help quickly..

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to build a server box for my house. I installed windows server 2008 R2. I've got everything up and running but I'm having an issue with the NLB.

I've never used NLB before, and thus far I can't seem to get both onboard NICs to work properly. I currently can configure one cluster, by telling the NLB manager to look at localhost, then choosing one of the NICs. I set the cluster ip to 192.168.1.100 and the NIC ip to 192.168.1.101.

At this point, I can access my server via that new cluster ip. I can ping it fine as well. Now I try to add another host, I type in the ip address of the second NIC. 192.168.1.103. It connect and I can select that NIC to add. I then set the address of this NIC to 192.168.1.102.

The NLB manager refreshes, shows my my cluster and the two NICs. The first NIC works fine, but the second NIC always is misconfigured.

I just can't figure out how to get both NICs to become configured and balanced. I can see the server and move files with one configure NIC and one misconfigured NIC. Also the server cannot access the internet.

Is NLB designed to do this? Everything I read setups up the NLB for 1 NIC public access and 1 NIC private access. I want both NICs to be able to share over my private network and be able to download.

Can anyone help?b

I have got this scenario ,,,netgear ADSL modem router connected to my ISP, its LAN ip address 192.168.1.1 and one of its LAN port connected to a WAN port (192.168.1.2) of a SnapGear SG300 (please see the link below for this router)

http://www.snapgear.com/index.cfm?skey=1556

In the link above I was able to configure TheGreenBow VPN Client to connect to a Netgear router FVS318

but in my this scenario I do not have Netgear router FVS318, instead I have got Snap Gear SG300,,,,,,I did my best to configure the IPSec for SnapGear SG300 as in the snapshots below (I could not figure out where is my mistake), my confusion during VPN configuration I have to use many IP addresses, but I was not sure which one should I choose (be aware there is double natted ).
Can someone walkthrough the snapshots below to help me out if he/she finds any incorrect settings

By looking at those snapshots I would appreciate any hint or tip where I did misconfigure although I will try to post logs for both router and TheGreenBow.

Thanks

I have a FreeBSD machine acting as router / webserver doing ipnat for a couple of other machines (dual-boot Ubuntu 9.10 + Windows XP Home, and a Mac on 10.4.) All three machines do periodic access to a remote website at http://dragcave.net. I have cable Internet through a local utilities subsidy called Conway Corp., and the cable modem is an Arris VOIP + cable modem.

The issue I am having is: in many cases, while one machine is attempting to access the site dragcave.net, the others run into frequent timeouts. Bizarrely it seems OS-dependent: WinXP never has problems, the Mac or the FreeBSD box get hit with a 10-second delay per connection, and the Linux box is totally unable to connect when another machine on the LAN is trying to access the site.

I've used tcpdump on the router to determine that SYN packets are being sent out properly, but that SYN-ACK is only received back from the remote machine in some cases. This points to a problem outside my LAN, though I don't know if some configuration within it is causing some problems?

I'm planning to call my ISP tomorrow to help troubleshoot and see if they can determine if something is eating the ACKs, or if it appears that the remote site is never sending them. My question is, has anyone else experienced this problem before? Any ideas on other things to try in the meantime?

Hey everyone, I'm new here and am looking for a bit of expert advice on setting up my new network.

I recently remodeled my home and installed wired ethernet ports all around the house, about 20 in total. They are all running to my closet on a shelf where I will have all the networking stuff located. I have Comcast Cable as an ISP, my dl is around 24Mbps and my ul is around 3Mbps. The cable modem is plugged into a Linksys WRT54G2, which has 2 wired devices and the rest being broadcasted wirelessly. Here's a list of the devices using the router in the house:

-2 Desktop Computers (gigabit capable)
-2 Laptop Computers (using wireless-g)
-HP Printer (can be wired or wireless)
-TiVo Box (wireless-g)
-2 Xbox 360 Consoles (1 is currently wired, other is using wireless-g)
-HD Cable Box
-iPod Touch

Now this is where I need help. I need to make sure that all the Ethernet ports in the house will be able to access the network and the internet. I need to have a network fast enough to stream media throughout the house, and share internet connection amongst devices without hogging the bandwidth.

Also, on the side, from what I hear, my connection speed is very strong, but the Xbox doesn't reflect that sometimes in-game, mostly while hosting games on Xbox Live. I need to make sure that the Xbox is getting the fastest speed possible from the internet, with the best ping/connection possible. If I need to set something up to prioritize the console's connection over other devices, I will be glad to. I set up a DMZ already on the router for the Xbox to make sure it isn't blocking any ports, but it doesn't look like it affects connection strength. Should I be having trouble hosting games with players on the opposite coast with a 24/3 speed connection? (usually only up to 12 players)

I am open to buying new equipment, like routers and port switches. I am also open to tweaking device or router settings to get the best performance. I mainly just need to know how to set up the network so we are getting the full speed from the internet connection while still allowing plenty of bandwidth for other devices in the network, except if prioritizing the Xbox connection.

I'd greatly appreciate any help or links to resources or tips. Thanks in advance!

I have a LAN with a 32-bit Win Home Server w/1G NIC, DLINK gigabyte gaming router and 2 1G switches, CAT5e cabling, 2 XPro laptops w/ 100M Nics, a Vista 32B laptop /100M Nic, 2 XPPro desktops w/1G Nics and a 64bit WIN7 desktop w/ 1G Nic. I can find little specific to optimizing the Windows registry or NIC advanced settings for 1G traffic. I have added Linklayer Topology to the XP computers and set the adapter tcpip properties, advanced, WINs to enable NETBios over TCPIP to facility the XP, Vista Win7 workgroup recognitions. All the 1G adapters are set to 1G full duplex and have the latest drivers. However, I am underutilizing the 1G capacity at no more than 10% between two computers with 1G NICs.

I tried LAN and TCPIP settings posted at Speedguide as well as 1G NIC settings at http://www.enterprisenetworkingplane...0950_3485486_2 I saw a boost and leveling of the Network Utilization in Task Manager. Things improved but nothing near the utilization rates you would expect.

Can anyone suggest links or settings for optimization of traffic speeds on a 1G LAN?

Thank you -1BigGuy

2 Computers, both using windows xp sp3, both successfully connected to the internet wirelessly via D-LINK DIR-300 wireless router. The problem is...i want to set the home network up to play some old dos games, transfer files between computers etc without going two and fro with a usb stick.

Right now neither computer can even ping each other! I am familiar with all the clients and protocols etc needed to get a network up and running in XP and have set up many networks before. I have tried pretty much everything I can think of. Could it be that my routers default setting does not allow a completely wireless LAN with no cables (I am not using any cables to connect to the router.) Surely not.... it doesnt help that the routers settings page is in chinese but again im pretty sure that isnt the problem here....

**I have now also attempted to hardwire the two PC's and they still wont ping each other
