I have cable for one reason, online gaming. However my connection is beign very disappointing.
To ping a server in Philly whre I usually play my avg ping is about 120. As of late it's been more than 200 and my # of hops is about 27. There are 2 other servrs I us often one I get an average ping of about the same 120 and the 3rd I cannot get below 400.
These are all on the east coast. As am I (Toronto)
When I tracert I seem to be fine till somewhere down in the states, however at work my routes are much shorter (we use Bell)
What makes this a little more interesting is my buddy is on DSL in the same area and his avg ping is around 60-80.
I have yet to find out how many hops he has.
My problem is just that. I think my cable provider is unwillign to change the routes, well even if they can. I'm up to testign my hardware...I did the tcp optimizer and ti told me my MTU was nto as high as it coudl be. Where do I adjust that?
Any other suggestions? I generally run it behind a linksys 4 port firewall, however my pings are the same even on a direct connect
