O.K. I had to reformat my computer due to a virus,before I did the reformat I was getting 180 KB/S (about 1500 kbps) download speeds with my cable modem.Now after reformat I get anywhere from 50KB/S to 90KB/S download speeds.I did all the tweaks and set everything back to where they where before the reformat but still slower speeds.I play multiplayer games alot and my pings don't seem to be affected by the slower speeds,just wondering if anyone else had this problem before, and found any solutions to it.(It takes me a lot longer to do downloads now and it pretty much sucks!!)

havent heard of that, how long ago did this happen, it could just be a temporary slowdown by ISP? Have you tried downloading from different servers to make sure its not the server?

Run the TCP/IP Analyzer and post your results :D

It is the same download speeds no matter where I download at,its been about 2 weeks since I reformatted.Here is the results from the TCP/IP Analyzer.

TCP options string = 020405b00103030201010402

MTU = 1496
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1456
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1456, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256256
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64064
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
512512 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128128 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64064 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10250.24 kbps (1281.28 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4100.096 kbps (512.512 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 53 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

OK it looks as if you are using a Linksys NIC so disable the "priority packet" settings under the advanced tab and if you would let me know your caps.:) :D

I am using a 3com NIC and don't have the "priority packet" option,and my caps are 1500/125

HMM that's odd, the reason I asked is because Linksys has an option called priority packet that lowers your MTU to 1496, did you manually lower your MTU? If you leave your MTU at 1496 then try the following settings in CableNut and see if they help:

DefaultReceiveWindow = 192512
DefaultSendWindow = 16384
DisableAddressSharing = 1
InitialLargeBufferCount = 100
InitialMediumBufferCount = 240
InitialSmallBufferCount = 320
LargeBufferSize = 81920
MaxFastTransmit = 6400
MediumBufferSize = 15040
PriorityBoost = 0
SmallBufferSize = 1280
TransmitWorker = 32
FastSendDatagramThreshold = 4096
EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
IgnorePushBitsOnReceive = 0
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 64064
MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
MaxHashTableSize = 16384
MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
SackOpts = 1
SynAttackProtect = 1
Tcp1323Opts = 0
TcpLogLevel = 1
TcpMaxDupAcks = 2
TcpMaxHalfOpen = 100
TcpMaxHalfRetried = 80
TcpRecvSegmentSize = 1456
TcpSendSegmentSize = 1456
TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
TcpWindowSize = 64064
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 20
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 10
DefaultTTL = 64
DisableUserTOSSetting = 0
TcpMaxDataRetransmissions = 6
DefaultTOSValue = 92

Also do the following:

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=643301#post643301)). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot (http://beam.to/spybotsd), anything checked in red is spyware and safe to remove.

Hope this helps, let me know about your MTU.... whether or not you manually edited it or not.
:) :D

I didn't change the MTU,the TCPOtimizer I got from speedguide says MTU is at 1500 not sure why its saying 1496.How do I change MTU to 1500?

I would assume you have some type of option with your 3Com card as Linksys has, look under the advanced tab for your NIC settings and see if you have anything like it, I use a 3Com card but don't have any such feature. If you change it then the settings I gave you will also change, so let me know if you are successful. Also, are you using a router? If so make sure it's MTU is set to 1500.:) :D

I tried changing everthing in my NIC advance tab but still MTU is 1496 (I know it use to be 1500<not sure why it changed)and I don't use a router.Its like something is limiting my download speeds,because a download will start fast then it will go down to about 70-80 KB/S and stay there.(only if I did'nt have to reformat I'd be fine damnit hehe!)
