OK everyone... I got a new firewall recently and thought I would drop by and give some initial impressions.
New hardware: SnapGear Lite, Linksys 8 port Hub.
Vendor: Provantage.
After coming here for some advice, I settled on the above hardware since the SnapGear was one of the less expensive certified firewalls, and did both PPTP and IPSec VPN. The Linksys hub I chose because it was cheap. Could have gotten the SnapGear Lite+ with the 4 port hub built in, but wanted more upgrade room. Well, the router was installed in about 30 minutes with half of that time being to re-route some cables and stuff. The best thing I can say is that everything worked easily and had me surfing the web quickly. grc.com showed that everything was initially in stealth mode, as expected. I haven't played much with getting the setting exactly as I want them, cause I ran out of time, but I have been able to open ports for ftp/web/smtp with no problems (pop is a bit odd though).
About Provantage: I was very impressed! They had the cheapest price on the SnapGear, and acceptable shipping costs. The total wasn't the best, but it was very close. I ordered the 2 items on Tuesday afternoon. The Linksys arrived at my house about 5pm on Wednesday, and the SnapGear was waiting for me when I got home yesterday. I didn't even pay for upgraded shipping. The 3-5 day ground shipping took 24 and 48 hours respectively.
At this point, I can recomend both the hardware that I ordered and the place that I ordered it from.
