Hello All

I have an OLD laptop that I am going to be using on a new wireless home network. Compaq 1255 (which means Win98se, 333 AMD K2 and 96mb RAM) and its already slow - hehe.

I would like to make sure that my wife doesn't have any little Virus or Hack incidents while using it so I was looking for suggestions for an AntiVirus and Firewall program that draws very little on system resources.

Any thoughts? Thanks a ton!

www.grisoft.com for a good free anti virus called AVG. Low resourses and does a good job for a free piece of work.

I would go without the firewall personally. Especially if you use a router. The router will block any incoming requests. If you set your network up right, you don't really need a firewall. Use netBEUI for file sharing, and unbind TCP from the "client" and from the 'file/print sharing.

Here are some suggestions for firewalls. Kerio, Tiny, Sygate. Zonealarm is also good firewall, but fairly resource hungry.

Thanks Norm. I'll grab AVG I've used it before and liked it.

Have you ever used Outpost? I was wondering how that would work out. Your right I could just go without one but I am trying to be as secure as possible.

Thx!

I have never used Outpost (well maybe for a day or 2 while having a look at it) so I can't vouch for it personally. There have been other members here that used or use it and think highly of it, if that helps.

not tried the free version.. (older versions they say are less hogs)
But I tried norton... after being hacked.. went to zone alarm.
But nothing is 100%.
avg is good if you get updated and you dont download off sharing programs.. all the time :)
