Guys,
Does my host server (RCN) keep a history of my internet browsing? I have gone into internet options on my browser (IE6) and erased my history. This erases everything from the dropdown at the address bar, but not from the history button. I can manually delete the history there, but when I close explorer and then open it again, the history reappears. I have the option set for 0 days and I still always have history. I tried to release and renew my IP address and it just always gives me back the same address that I currently have. I would appreciate any info on how to fix this. Also, if you guys have a shareware program that is a history clearer as well as a pop-up ad blocker, I would be interested in downloading that. I am bewildered with how to fix this history issue without it though. I am new to computers and am learning as I go. Thanks in advance for the help. There are some very smart people on this forum.

You can set "days to 0" and IE will still by default keep a history of 24 hrs.

If your worried about somebody at your house knowing what sites you visit set up a different web browser that is not easily accessible. If you are worried about your isp, give it up. Every website you visit on "their" network is logged. One good thing, is that most isp's do not care what your visiting online. They just want your 20 or 45 bucks a month. Good luck and happy surfing.

Your history will be recorded in a data file on your system as will the cookies and a number of other records to do with your habits.
Once in the data files they are harder to access but they will not delete from the system unless you run a program to do that for you or use a DELTREE command to do it.

There are a number of programs that will do this for you. Both are listed in the "Must Have thread in Gen Discussions. Do a search for either Spider or BearDelete. Alternatively search for DELTREE command or commands.
If you use BearDelete, prepare for an instant shutdown as soon as you click the .exe file in the program.

Chimdogger is on track too. All the ISP is interested in is the money. There are changes to laws coming up in the UK and here in Australia that will require all ISP's to keep a log of all URL's visited by their customers. Imagine the space that will be required to do that.

Have fun.
