I am using usb cable modem with a 1 meg broadband connection, windows ME and outlook express, the problem i am having is the when I move between web pages the blue bar at the bottom of the screen the shows loading progress moves quickly from left to right but then stops about 98% of the way and then stops for anything between 5 to 20 seconds, during this time I am unable to do anything with the page, this problem is taking the "fast" out of my fast internet connection, has anyone else had this problem? if so how did you remedy it? I have contacted my ISP, they have checked and said my connection is fine, TIA.

You are using a proxy. In IE tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings, make sure no box is checked.

A couple of things you might try:

1. Try and repair IE, control panel - add/remove programs, select remove IE and an option will be repair, select it and reboot when prompted.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85224)).

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and do a scan with SpyBot Search & Destroy (http://beam.to/spybotsd).

:) :D

NTL is apparently running a transparent proxy. Your posts originate from inktomi2-cam.server.ntl.com, not from your cable modem.

You can expect that this will give you trouble on quite a few sites. One of the US ISP's tried this earlier in the year and ended up with their head in a basket because of the problems and the perception that they were tracking browsing habits.
