Hey guys, my internet has been really crappy lately. At random times, the pings go up, downloads go down and I go crazy. I've replaced just about everything on my network to see whats wrong... nothing works. Here is my tracert:

Tracing route to cox.net [68.1.17.9]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

Trace complete.

===================================

As you can see it starts immidiately at the 10.*.*.* ip. I haven't a clue what that is. Any help is appreciated!

The 10.xxx.xxx.xxx number at hop #2 is the ip address of your modem. Or more acurately the residential Gateway node.
If you are having that much latency there, then your node is over saturated.

I know AT&T has a limit of 200MS. If it is 199MS they won't investigate.

Call COX and tell them you have traceroutes that show COX servers are providing 300+MS service.

300+MS service kills online gaming and streaming audio, as just a couple reasons why we have cable access. Let them know how it is affecting you.

Also it could be a problem on your end if you have trashed your registry by installing every speed tweak and tweaking the tweaks you've installed incorrectly. If your TCP/IP is toast, try downloading the default tweak from this site and see if applying that to your registry doesn't clear stuff up.

Also your should send in the trace route with your ROUTER removed. The first thing they will say is the 192.xxx.xxx.xxx router device you have installed is causing your problem.

The second hop is actually the port of the CMTS to whcih you are connected. There can be a lot of reasons why the latency is high, almost all of whcih have to be checked out by Cox. It would be useful to run tracerouts at different times of day to see if it changes. If it does, it is normally (not always) an indication of too much traffic on the CMTS port.

I've sent my tracerts (ones w/out the router) to a Tier 2 Rep for Cox on Saturday. I'm hoping to get a reply soon.... Tuesday already and no reply :(
