I have a problem that I have never seen on any forum. When I download something from the net my downloads ALWAYS freeze up on me. I can start a download and get about 50-90% of the the download complete, and then the site that I am downloading from stops responding and freezes on me. I have tried all kind of tweak programs such as Tweak XP, XP Tuneup, Tweak Master, and Pc Accelerator to name a few. I have also tried Speedguide's registry patches and other various registry tweaks. NOTHING WORKS!! I also have DAP and it will also freeze up on downloads. In fact I can only download from sites using DAP because when I try to use the default explorer downloader the downloads will never even start. I cannot even upgrade any of my programs because the site they connect to will not even respond. I am not behind a firewall and my computer runs almost perfectly besides this problem. The funny thing is, the ONLY program that I can actually get my downloads to complete on is Kazza Lite, and now that is starting to mess up too. If anyone can help me I would be really thankful. So everyone put their thinking caps on and let me know what's up!......Peace.

I read the 3 threads you said to read for newbies, and I am not trying to sound like a smart ass, but I cannot download anything at all! I can't even take speed tests because the pages will never load. Regular internet pages load fine, but anything with java, flash or any kind of appletts just wont load up. I've even let them sit there on java based speed tests all night before and they just do not respond. But anyway I will give you all as much info as I know: My OS is WinXP Pro: My advertised speed is 300k through Verison DSL: I have tried just about every DSL, WinXP,and Registry Tweak I have been able to find on the net. I've even reinstalled Windows and NOTHING works at all. I know that you all do your best to help out everyone on this forum and some people just do not appreciate your help and time spent. Not me. I am very thankful for any help I can get. I hope this info helps someone out in helping me out because this problem really SUCKS! Thanx for reading my rant and keep up the good work.........Peace.

OK let's try a few things, I don't think it's spyware because you said it happens on a fresh install but try the following reguardless:

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there except TCP/IP Internet Protocol.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85224)).

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with Ad Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com).

Number 1 & 3 could be the culprit, also check out the DSL Wiring Article (http://dslnuts.com/DSLwiring.shtml) (I knowit's extensive but you may have a wiring problem and it has helped allot of people.

Yeah, those are a sure way to kill Windows. Might as well not run anti-virus, and download a few Klez virus's while you're at it. Kazaa BAAAD.....p2p shareware BAAAAAD

Please do this peace meal and test so we know what finally fixed this issue.

If it turn out to be a firewall that has blocked ports.
Or before you decide to blast windows. lets look at killing particular .dll's that may be causing this.or we can run some command line deletes of your tcp and reinstall of it. This way you help yourself and the commoonity.

commoonity= lots of people following people who are just following.

FYI this is meant as a light hearted joke and not intended or to be represented with your actual experiences.

Go to my shareware vault and download Netscape 4.7. It is a 19Mb file, and you should be able to pull it fast, as I am on fiber and dont throttle those downloads. Let me know what you get.

Bloodstir I know you ran Ad Aware but try and run SpyBot (http://beam.to/spybotsd) because it will find more things and take a look at the DSL Wiring Guide (http://dslnuts.com/DSLwiring.shtml). Also you never posted a TCP/IP Analyzer Test (http://forums.speedguide.net:8117) so we could look at your settings and make sure you are properly tweaked. If you would please post the results from that and your ISPs caps and your OS and I'll help you get things set right to eliminate that as a problem.:) :D

Hi Guys
Have this problem too... pages not downloading completely because applets won't load
I just hit the refresh button again and again (sometimes up to 10 quick refreshes) and the page eventually appears.
Very irritating but mainly happens with my home page and that site. I was in the process of looking up a solution myself when come accross this site. Just thought I'd let you know your not the only one.
