I recently installed windows XP and at the same time installed the Linksys BEFSR41 ver. 2 router connecting my three PCs to the internet. What I found is that while I have no trouble downloading windowupdate and Norton Antivirus update in my two client PCs, I can't download anything with my host PC ( the one where I programmed my router). Everytime I tried to download the updates, the message would say "Administrator Only", while I AM the listed administrator. I was told it could be the built-in NAT firewall in the router. Any suggestions? Thanks :(

That host machine, are you logged in as an Administrator, or a user with Administrative priviledges?

Hmmm, I have XP pro at the house behind the same router and always do everything as "user with Administrative priviledges" and don't have any issues.

However, I would highly recommend following YOSC's advice and log in as "Administrator" and see if that fixes your issue.

If the other two clients are having no problems, and most especially since you are getting that specific error message, I would suspect a permissions issue.

Thanks for the response. I am logged in as administrator.

I'm trying to make sure we're on the same page.....to make changes to any NT based operating system, (example being adjusting network properties, or installing programs such as Windows Updates) you have to be logged into the computer as an Administrator, or a user with Administrator rights.

Totally separate from logging on the router through your web browser as "Admin"....that's an entirely different issue.

I am logged in to Windows XP as the administrator, not the Router.

I'm completely puzzled by this.....the router, and its NAT, has absolutely nothing at all to do with running Windows Updates. It's just a gateway.

Can you triple check your user account....make sure for some reason it isn't pulled from the admin group, or somehow you ahve auto-logon and perhaps am logging on as someone else.

make sure it's Administrator not administrator.

Piece of advice from one whose been bitten before - make one change at a time. It generally makes the problems that will occur easier to troubleshoot.
