Wondering if Cox can really handle running MTU at 1460,1492 or 1500 i am getting alot of packet loss and am wondering about reducing it so its not sending suck large packets but sending smaller more manageable ones. Is there benefit to it?
I tried doing the old ping -f -l 1462 www.cox.com to see how it handled the packet to see if it fragmented it or not but im at work behind a military computer and cant do it ill try when i get home, give me your thoughts on this please, thanks :)

No, if you have packet loss you might have a line problem or Cox has a problem. You shouldn't lower your MTU to compensate, what makes you think you have packet loss? 1500 is what it should be, if it's real bad call Cox and have them come out and check out your line.:) ;)

Damn that was a quick response hehe, well first off using Ping Plotter im getting an average of 30% packet loss in an hour. When i do more extensive things like download large files etc. it can sky rocket up to 75-100% packet loss. Also while playing online games i will get numerous connection interrupts and at times lose the connection all together and this is daily. All the while these things are happening all my modem lights are just peachy.

Defintely call Cox, it could be your modem, your NIC, your line, a connection.... lot's of things.... but that is WAY off. Have you had any stroms lately? Lightning maybe?:) ;)

Just got off the phone with them, they checked my line noise said it was low it was like 26 and they said it should never be below 32. I have a tech coming out between 8-10 in the morning tomorrow, gonna run ping plotter all night and save it so they can see what im talking about
should i run ping plotter to www.cox.com or to a different site you think?
