More dedicated power?

Could SETI and Gnome and alll of those other clients out there, make the programs use more of the computers ability and resources? Maybe something like a dedicated program? just wondering.....:D

They pretty much are using 100% of the resources when you are doing nothing. It is unlikely that it is worth while to write a program that is 1% faster and therefore totally cripples your machine and only lets it fold or seti.
