I'm running simple peer to peer on 6 XP machines with DSL modem, Befsr11 Linksys Router and a 16-port Netgear switch. Purpose: soft/file/print/net sharing. Everything is on static IP's and generally the LAN doesn't bitch.

One of the machines seems to be not reconnecting to a mapped drive at startup. When I mapped it I checked the "Reconnect at Logon" box and it still loses the connection. When I browse the drive it opens it fine although the icon still shows crossed as if it was disconnected...Any idea?

That can happen due to various things...including Windows just getting confused "browsing wise".

As long as the mapped drive still opens up....don't worry about it. If you double click it and you get an error "not accessible"...then you need to look at something.

If it's just a way to gain access to a share on the other computer....drive mapping is the old way of doing it. Try just dragging a shortcut to the shared folder right through Network Neighborhood onto your desktop. Instead of an "F" drive meaning "share on computer1"....you'll have a path of \\computername\sharename.....called UNC.

It's less steps and quicker to open a folder on your desktop, rather than My Computer/Drive Letter.
