I have WinXP Pro, on Adelphia cable, have a surfboard SB3100 (rental) and a linksys router (BEFSR41). as of late my cable modem light (activity - orange one) has been going crazy, even though i'm not doing anything. i noticed on my router that the Act light on WAN is blinking with the cable modem light, but the Link/Act lights for the computers i have in port 1 and 2 don't blink. i'm pretty sure i'm just stuck with a IP (dynamic) that someone had some p2p stuff going on...which was what was happening the last time i saw this, via my ZA Pro. mostly, i'm just checking with you peeps that basically, my router is doing its job and my IP is getting hammered, but nothing is getting through. also, would my ISP change my IP for me to reduce this crap. i understand it changes form time to time, as i said - dynamic, but would they do it if i request it?

For about a year or more now the receive light on my modem has been constantly blinking. Sometimes it goes solid red as a whole range of ports are being scanned. This all seemed to start when the CodeRed worm got lose, and infected servers around the globe.

It's normal chemgeek (normal in todays internet that is)
Nothing you can do about it, and most ISP's refuse to block the infected servers.

As long as you're not 'sending' anything back, all is well.

I have the exact same setup, SB3100 and Linksys 4 port...send receive on constantly, activity flashes like mad most of the time.
