SETI@Home....going down...but more coming...

The current SETI@home search will wind down over the next year or so. However, we are working on new projects that will continue to use the computer power of millions of volunteers to further SETI and other scientific research. Our plans include the following:

BOINC - Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing
SETI@home southern hemisphere search
AstroPulse - astronomical pulse detection

How about getting the SETI people move across to Folding or other scientific medical research? Lets harvest something usefull from our research in relatively short time frames, ie. our lifetimes hopefully.

Lets face it, even if SETI had found life out there, so what? The life would be so far away, by the time we responded and they responded, 100's of generations would have passed. Lets all do something that actually helps humanity in the short term.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for SETI research (or the even most usefull research of all, finding the largest prime number), but only once all human diseases have been eradicated. I am sure the aliens (and the prime numbers) are happy to wait another 100 years before they are discovered, but lets prevent the suffering of millions of people ASAP.
