Anyone knows of any programs to upload files from one computer to another on the same router? I have a LINKSYS/NETWORK EVERYWHERE CABLE/DSL 4PORT ROUTER NR041 and AT&T cable internet. Also how is my speed?

Your download speed : 1438201 bps, or 1438 kbps.
A 175.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 242718 bps, or 242 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

You can simply share your C: drives (or whatever labels you have) by right clicking on the drive/folder you want to share and going to the 'Sharing...' option. After this, you should be able to see the other computer's shared items in Network Neighborhood.

About your speed- it appears very good for what you are paying for. The download might could be higher, but it depends on when you ran the test (peak times).

Windows networking share

Router gives you a firewall for basic protection...NAT

Get current antivirus software and run those weekly updates

Run all Windows updates to get rid of known vulnerabilities that most virus/worms utilize.

Virus usually come in through e-mail or websites anyways...so you're already 99% exposed to them....nothing to do with sharing.

If you want extra protection install the NetBeui protocol and bind File and print sharing to it only. This should hide your shares from WAN side of your network.
