I just did some figuring, (figure that), and for the amount of time taken doing the WU's the short ones pay off more than the big ones.
On one of my computers it took:
14 hours 1 minute and 20 seconds to do a PolyQ50.
for a P180 on the same computer it took:
45 hours 31 minutes and 41 seconds.
I could do 3 PolyQ's and get 6 points plus be 3 hours 27 minutes 41 seconds on a 4th one while completing 1 P180/2 and only getting 5.59 points.
To bad we don't have any say in which WU's we get.

I hear your cries on that one. I have been thinking the same thing for a few days. My main machine at home has gotten only 180 and 182. the others get the little ones and it takes em a little while but I know my main machine could fly through the polyQ50 and anything besides the enghomeo's. alas it is outta our control. Everything helps though

I too like the smaller protiens. When I get just the smaller protiens, my output averages ~100 pts. daily. Oh well, the points don't really matter that much except as a way to insure that the cpu cycles aren't wasted, but the competition can be fun. :)
I found the Gromacs units rather than the Tinker units to give me the most WU's credit per timeframe. Not sure if the different cores are graded differently, or if the Gromacs is more optimized for a P4.

The Gromacs core is optimized for SSE which helps the P4. However, you need to ensure that optimization is on otherwise it will take much longer to complete a unit.
How do I turn it on? I am pretty sure it is on, as I noticed that Gromacs runs a hell of a lot faster on my machine, but just to be certain, how do I verify it? Who knows, I may be able to do 5 WU's in an hour and never knew I could. :D
P.S. The Gromacs WU/hour is pretty much exactly twice the Tinker WU/hour, sadly I have not gotten any Gromacs for a while.

When the unit first starts, the log file will say whether "optimiztion" is on or not. They usually start out with optimization on. I haven't had a gromacs in a while either.
But what do I need to do in case it is not on?
