View Full Version : New Ramsinks
Just finished cutting up some ramsinks for my GF4. Geeez it was a real hassle doin it by hand !
I cut up a large Pentium heatsink into 8 small pieces with my hacksaw. Then came the good part and i had to file evry piece smooth and lap them so they'll fit perfectly on the vid card's ram chips. I washed them in soapy water, blasted them with air to dry em off, then painted them. I think i did decent job :D Took pics with my crappy webcam, but here it is:

And here's the leftover chunk:

I'm gonna install 'em now so i'll try and get pics of the finished products installed.
Cool. I've got a million heatsinks and I've thought of doing that too. Let me know how much of an increase you get in Frames from the vid card once installed. I haven't installed sinks on my vid card (8500LE) yet and am wondering how well they assist in Oc'ing.
Well guyz, this is the finished product. This was the best shot i could take with my cam.

That 80mm fan on the bottom is my custom vid card cooler. I saw a link with the info and decided to make one.
It's made with an old ISA card. I busted all the chips off, grinded evrything down including the lip that slides into the slot, otherwise you'll short out the mobo. Cut a 80mm hole, attached a 38cfm fan with grill, molex to psu and there you go. The air blows towards the vid card, cooler and my ram sinks from the bottom up. It works great too ! Brought my card's temps down 10c !!! Without the fan and the ramsinks, temps were 63-65c.
Now after my mods, they're at a cool 51c :2cool: I'll do some benchin and see if i can clock my card a little more now that i have the ramsinks installed :D
** Edit**
Well it works! My 3Dmarks went up about another 125 without the xtra boost from Riva Tuner so i'll just leave it as is. ;)
And thus concludes another chapter in the "Make your pc scream " book of overclocking and modding :D
Hey Easto, if you're thinking of adding ramsinks to your card, i highly recommend it !
That blue orb on the right used to be the original vid card cooler i swapped for the crystal orb and used it for my northbridge cooler :D
I have a comment...get a digital camera, ya cheapskate!

XLNT! I have plenty of old ISA cards and I've been wondering what I could use them for. Thanks for the tip. I'll definately trying this one. Thanks!

Can ya let me know how much of a difference the ram sinks make on your 8500 (LE). I have the same card and have noticed that the card runs kinda hot so if this works I'd like to know.....
LT the ISA mod will definately come in handy.....
Thanks guys
