Hello,

I need your help to find a solution.

Since one week I have a disconnection every 5 minutes with my USB modem DIva adsl. I lost the connection for 30 sec approx.

Do you have a suggestion to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance

usb can be pretty unreliable, do you have a rj45 connection you can try, if you check other posts out, lots of people have this problem with usb, and once they switch to rj45 all problems diapear

Sounds like there's an IP conflict with your ISP.

If you have a static IP call your ISP and see if they can figure out who is using the same IP as you.

If you have a dynamic IP address unplug your modem for a little while then plug it in. If you have the same problem, contact your ISP and tell them to send you out another IP.

According to my ISP, I have to change my modem or maybe my USB port. He checked my line also.

I don't know if my modem can support to transfer data via RJ45.
My modem is Diva adsl USB.

Tell me if you are sure it is possible.

Thanks for all your replies.

I also have a Diva ADSL modem which has USB capabilities, but I don't use them. I connect to my computer with a network cable and still, every 5 minutes I have to go and unplug my modem, count to 10, then plug it back in and wait for over a minute. This isn't to annoying when surfing but when you start to try and play multiplayer games over the internet, it can start to get really annoying. Does anyone have any idea whether there's a solution to this that doesn't involve a baseball bat? Thank you!

How about a chainsaw :D

Who is your ISP and have you called them about this. if so what did they say?

If you rent the modem from them i'd call and tell them to send someone out to fix the issue.

Your chainsaw idea is way too tempting :) .

My ISP is Balgacom (I live in Belgium) and their product support is useless. The modem is owned by us, but they provided it and they still don't know anything about it :irate: . I tried calling them already and they said something along the lines of "Well, it works, even though it disconnects all the time, so we don't know why you're calling us"

Sorry, that should read Belgacom, not Balgacom

Geez and I though SBC was bad here in the US!

Taking from what qball posted a couple years ago, how is ur connection setup?

Static IP or set to Obtain automatically? And do you have a router or is it just PC and Modem?

I am fairly certain that I have a static IP address, although I'm not sure. I do know that I have a hub which 4 computers are hooked up to between the computer and the modem, and all of the computers experience the same problem.

The hub could be your problem. Has this been a problem for you since u connected the hub?

From your ISP you have 1 IP address wich allows 1 computer to use the net. A hub, while connecting the computers together doesnt connect them all to the one IP, for that you need a router.

Try turnning off 3 of them and see if the 4th can keep its connection or better yet connect the modem directly to one computer.

I just tried it. It doesn't work with one computer either.

The modem won't recognize the computer nor will the computer recognize the modem when I hook the computer up directly to the modem. I tried unplugging everything from the hub except one computer and the modem then tried to transfer a file just to really tax the modem and it blew and needed to be reset. After being reset, it needed to be reset again, because the first reset I didn't let it sit long enough before trying to reconnect.

GAAAAHHHH!!!! I'm 14 years old and this thing is going to give me high blood pressure!

I dont really know much with hubs, never a peice i've needed. The computer probaby didnt connect on its own without the hub becasue you need a pppoe protocol/application setup, but hopefully a smarter person will step in now with something more.

Dude..I have exactly the same problem....though I use a router , 2 other PC's are also connected to the same router and each PC has the same problems.
Being disconnected each 5/20 minutes (Its always different) And I also noticed that when one computer gets disconnected the others dont ....So they dont get disconnected at the same time

Yep ... I also had the same problem one year ago! Here at home we had 1 belgacom adsl account and 2 computers. No router, so 2 people couldn't surf at the same time. Everything worked fine, except for the computer on the second floor: connected with a Eicon Diva adsl modem, the internet connection broke at +- 5 minutes :) I always had that 5 minutes problem unless I unplugged the modem cable from the computer downstairs completely from it's adsl splitter. Not very practical, so I called my ISP (skynet) for some support. I explained the problem, and they did a line probe (or something). From what they could see on their systems my line was having a weak adsl signal (+- 30 % of it's usual strength).
Now with that other computer out of the house, the 5 minute connection problem is gone.

So it seems you have two options:

* either you completely unplug computer A from the router in order to be able to make a connection with computer B (or vice versa) (or stop using a router :( )
* or you could find a solution to that weak adsl signal you probably have; skynet should take care of that, free of charge... but (I'm not sure) usually you have to subscribe to a somewhat more expensive service if you want to use more than one pc on the same adsl line... so what we are doing here could be unsupported (in the worst case illegal)...
